Picking up after the Blood Hunt series, Blade is back and is lost of who exactly he is. He is still fighting monsters, and returned to Lupui Island, which is in Southeast Asia.
It seems that Blade wants some alone time, but he also is craving to have someone to talk to. Blade feels he can’t come back to what he was before, and is forever changed after the Blood Hunt Saga.Â
When Blade goes into town, he meets a SpellGuard named Damien. It seems that Damien understand’s Blade’s loneliness, and doesn’t blame him for wanting to be by himself. But, Damien knows exactly who Blade is on the inside, someone who continues to kill.
Damien has a proposition for Blade, with the SpellGuard. There are some magic users who are using magic in the wrong way. Since they don’t want that happening, they show this man who has turned into some sort of monster. Damien wants Blade to kill all the people who are using magic illegally. Then the SpellGuard will help him get his life back together. Damien thinks about it, but ends up having a physical fight with Damien, and killed the man who turned into a monster.
It’s interesting to see where Blade’s head is at. He really doesn’t want to be bothered by anyone. No surprise, because he thinks that he is the only one that can hold himself accountable to get any job done. I think this first issue is showing a broken Blade, who has to figure out who he is now. To get past the past, and lead himself into the future. The character Blade has always been that way perhaps, because he believes only his way is the best way.
I love the art in this first issue. In each panel, when there is action, you can see the action literally come off the page. I like how the action keeps going until it concludes. I’m really hoping that Blade finds himself again, and he feels fulfilled going on in his future.
