Space Ghost Continues to Shine!

From the very first issue, this creative team has been building something special. The characters are developing in a fascinating way. I care about each of them, even the villains. They have depth. They feel tangible and relatable, yet extraordinary. The world building done by the whole crew is something to behold.

The lore and history of Space Ghost is established from decades of work, but Pepose puts it to work to build an engaging new narrative. Space Ghost feels new and different. It’s new story built upon the foundations of the character but it’s brought into the new age of superhero comics.

Space Ghost Expands on Characters and Relationships

Issue 5 continues what started in the previous issue as Zorak takes over a hadron collider in hopes of opening a dimensional rift and usher in Lokar, a locust God that will jump start the Apocalypse. Unfortunately Jan and Jace are captured in an attempt to free the hostages and Space Ghost is put in a tight spot. Does he fight Zorak or surrender his energy blasters to save the kids from harm? It’s these kinds of character choices and stakes that make this issue so great.

Other things that stand out in this issue would be Space Ghost’s fatherly instincts, Jan and Jace’s emotional moments, and this absolute awesomeness that is Zorak! He’s a great villain with fun dialogue and a great design. As a zealot, he can’t be diverted from his way of thinking and will do anything imaginable to achieve his goal. On top of that, he’s smart and incredibly strong! Just a blast to read all the way around!

Space Ghost Artwork Wastes No Space

Jonathan Lau and Andrew Dalhouse give us top tier comic book art in every single issue and they don’t get the credit they deserve. There are no simple panels. They don’t take any short cuts. Nothing is simple or minimal in nature. The characters and environment are always so detailed. Every panel is full of and wastes nothing, making use of all of the space. Panels are laid out in ways that create tension and flow organically.

The lighting and shading in these issues are always amazing. When the portal is opened and Zorak stands in the immense light in a huge panel I was enthralled! It looked so cinematic! If anyone ever wants to take this from page to screen I want it to look just like this artwork. It’s visual eye candy.

Everything Points to 10/10

What a fun ride this issue was! The stakes are high, the action is dynamic, and the characters are captivating! David Pepose continues to revive Space Ghost and pull him back into the ranks of the greatest superheroes of all time. Pepose is not alone in this either. Jonathan Lau’s and Andrew Dalhouse’s artwork is beautiful, exceptional, immersive…there’s too many adjectives to list.
