What’s Up Comic Fans!? Rich from the NI Bullpen with another Marvel Comics review. However, you could say this is also a HUGE kickoff for a crossover event.
Ultraman X Avengers #1 is written by Kyle Higgins & Mat Groom, with art by Francesco Manna, colors by Matt Milla, and letters by VC’s Ariana Maher. This book is published by Marvel Comics in association with Tsuburaya Productions.
It’s time to fight some Kaiju and Galactus!
***Minor Spoilers Possible***
“Will You Serve as Herald of Galactus?”
Ultraman X Avengers #1 opens with an alien, Zarab being beaten by Galactus. Zarab is then given the choice of being killed and his planet being destroyed or be Herald of Galactus. Seems like a no brainer choice if you ask me.
Meanwhile, the Ultra Guard is responding to an anomaly fearing it is a trap from Morheim. But instead, it’s just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! He isn’t alone as he is being followed by an alien creature. After dispatching of said creature, Miles Morales and the Ultra Guard become a tentative team.
Their budding relationship is put on hold, as Zarab has made his way to this universe as well. It takes Ultraman, the Monster Attack Team, and Spider-Man to take out Zarab, right after the fight comes to an end, enter The Avengers!
The Avengers tell everyone that Galactus is coming, and they need to prepare to save this Earth. They put together a daring plan to get what they will need. Not only is the plan dangerous, but they now have Kaiju to deal with as well.

“It Sounds Like We Have a Plan”
Ultraman X Avengers #1 is a good kickoff issue for this killer crossover. Kyle Higgins & Mat Groom put together a first issue that hits you hard, while still holding back for more big reveals. It never feels like they are giving too much time to just one group but spreading the wealth of the story.
Galactus is a perfect “Big Bad” for this book, as he is not only a major foe for The Avengers, but also fits into the Kaiju world as well. Between Galactus, the Kaiju, and Morheim our heroes are going to have their work cut out for them this series.
Let’s talk about the artwork next. The way Francesco Manna melds the two worlds together deserves a chef’s kiss. Once you add the colors by Matt Milla, and their very familiar Marvel style, you’ve got an A plus experience.
Final Thoughts
Ultraman X Avengers #1 got me invested in where this story will go. There may have not been a big mic drop moment, but it wasn’t needed. This issue is a clean cut set the table first issue. There is no way anyone shouldn’t pick this up and make sure this series is on your pull list at your LCS.
Final Grade: 8/10
