The Art

WHOA!!! Seriously, with all the action on these paneled pages, the art speaks for itself! Diving, slashing, crunching, and any other ING you can think of is in this book. Not only that, but knowing the scale of the buildings that Scarlett, Jinx, and Storm Shadow are trying to break into the depth is really portrayed well.

The use of light and more so, shadow is impressive. You can tell different shading techniques are used to define depth. And who knew I needed to see a stunning shark to admire?

The Story

Now I know I said this is chock full of action. But there is a story in there, too! The monologuing by Scarlett as she’s infiltrating the building once again gives us insight into her motivations. The idea of a two-pronged attack is smart. So is the bit of banter between Jinx and Storm Shadow cuts like a katana! And the final page hit you like a roundhouse kick to the face!

Thoughts from THE PIT

Kelly Thompson and the whole team have me hooked! This is just issue THREE!! A modern take on the first female of the Joes is such a breath of fresh air! The art style, character designs, colors, writing, and action are all top-notch.

Now, speaking of modern interpretations, let’s take a quick look at Jinx, as this is the first real dialogue between Scarlett and her. I love her new design!!! It pays so much homage to old figures but not a full-on red-clad ninja. It has a certain femininity, but serious heels?! Even my ankles hurt just looking at it.

Scarlett #3 gets an 8.5 out of 10 Yo Joes!

It’s a heart-pounding issue at a breakneck speed. Once you pick it up, you’ll be on the last page. Now, where we go next with the big reveal at the end is very important, and I’m eager to get my hands on the next book.
