Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And I’m here to review the latest issue in the Amazing Spider-Man: Bloodhunt from Justina Ireland & Marvel comics!
For those who may not know, Bloodhunt is the ongoing story in Marvel comics where Halloween has come early! The Vampires are here and they’re not here for tricks! It’s seen crossing over in the Black Panther, X-Men and Werewolf By Night comics just to name a few and so far the stories have been great! So far in the Spider-Man story New York City has been plunged into an eternal night, vampires are EVERYWHERE, and Peter is having to team up with Misty Knight and LIZARD (yes you read that right) to try to save the day (or is it night?) from the horde of vampires. Will they succeed? Will they fail and become vampires themselves? Let’s jump into it!
The Amazing Spider-Man: Bloodhunt issue #3 by Justina Ireland (writer), Marcelo Ferreira & Chris Campana (pencilers), Roberto Poggi & Craig Yeung (inkers), Rachelle Rosenberg (colorist), VC’s Travis Lanham (letterer) is another action packed issue from the entire creative team. Peter, Misty & Lizard are the main focus of this issue and they’re still trying to find a way to stop the vampire outbreak, while still saving everyone affected by it. With two minds like Peter & Curt Conners (the lizard), you would think this would be a very simple fix but unfortunately it isn’t. They’ve had to get into Hemoglobin Inc to try to find a cure, and that is with most of the vampires in the city bearing down on them.
This issue has something for everyone who reads it. Like fighting sequences? Oh it has that alright. Are you a fan of character development? Yep, that’s in here too. Are you here just to see how the overall plot plays out? Well I can tell you there’s no “filler” in this issue. Are you more geared towards the artwork in a comic? This one has some great artwork in it as well. It’s honestly one of the most well rounded issues I’ve read recently. I can’t praise the creative team enough for how much I liked this issue.
My favorite part of this issue is the interactions between Spider-Man & Morbius. They’ve had a long and complicated history, and I might be oversimplifying that A LOT. And you have to feel like Morbius is in a weird position. For maybe the first time ever, he isn’t the outlier in society. He isn’t on the outside looking in on society, most of society is now like him. But he’s still doing the right thing by turning those who have been turned into vampires back into humans, because he knows he doesn’t want to condemn people to live a life like he’s had to. And I particularly love how complimentary Peter is to Morbius when he says “Listen, I get that you didn’t get Moby Dick, Ahab. But that’s still a heck of an achievement.”
FINAL POINT: As I said before, this issue has something for absolutely everyone. And it’s honestly the most well rounded issue I’ve read in recent memory. The actions sequences are great, there’s a confrontation readers of the series will have seen coming but it’s still shocking to see it play out, and the ending is very intriguing. I won’t go into spoilers, but let’s just say I don’t think this is going to be “happily ever after”. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
Score: 9.0 out 10
