The Story:

The Writing:

Murewa Ayodele has a very specific brand of writing and it is on full display in this book. He allows the story to breathe and he leaves room for the art to help convey the emotion without beating the reader over the head with exposition. This issue showcased his ability to jump from timeframe to timeframe without confusion. Flashbacks, fever dreams, and ancient legends are woven together to make a beautiful tapestry. The story is well paced and hooks you in right away. Even with the larger page count I was never bored, and I was sad when the issue was over. I truly believe that Murewa is one of the best young writers in the industry and one that everyone should be watching.

The Art:

Just like the writer on this title, the artist is one of the best in the industry. Dotun Akande has a beautiful talent that never disappoints. The dark and epic imagery on display in this issue is some of his best work. This is a delightfully dark mythological tale that could not be told without incredible art work. Dotun and Colorist, Dee Cunniffe turn in a masterpiece of death, sex, and revenge! Well done to this incredible art team!

The Verdict: 8.5/10

This book is great, plain and simple. The story and art blend together in a way that few creative teams can achieve. With each issue of this story I have become more and more intrigued and I have found a curiosity for the folklore and mythology of this region that I have never had before. This truly is God of War meets Conan the Barbarian!
