Truth and Justice!
Written by Gerry Duggan and Jonathan Hickman. Art by Javier Garron and Morry Hollowell.
The Story:
After the Orchis attack on the Hellfire Gala and the Captain Krakoa attack on Washington DC, Captain America begins to put together a new team of Avengers and X-Men to fight against this new fascist regime! This new team includes Captain America, Rogue, Deadpool, Quicksilver, and new recruits Psylocke and Penance.
The Writing:
Gerry Duggan handles the main story here, and as usual, he sets up the story and characters perfectly. By the end of this issue the reader is fully aware of the motivations of each character and believes that the characters would act the way they do in these pages. Jonathan Hickman handles the backup page and does what he does best, teases the reader just enough to beg for more.
The Artwork:
The art team of Javier Garron and Morry Hollowell did a wonderful job with this book. The action scenes with Psylocke and Penance and the speed represented with Quicksilver were top tier comic art! The use of light and color during the rain and blood soaked breakout was beautiful and striking. Also the use of very vibrant colors throughout this dark and heavy story was a nice contrast that really worked for me.
The Verdict: 9/10
I have not been reading any of the Fall of X story. I was concerned going into this book that I would be lost and have a hard time following the story. However, between the summary at the beginning of the issue and excellent writing throughout, I was never lost. I found myself wanting to pick up other X titles and catch up on everything. That is what you want, you want a story to grab you and want more. I’m very happy to have read this issue and I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here! Do yourself a favor and don’t miss out on this one. Even if you’re behind on the mutants in the Marvel Universe.
