Character Bio

Booster Gold was created by Dan Jurgens. He Made his first comic book appearance in Booster Gold #1, back in 1986.

Booster Gold, aka. Mike Carter, was a college football star from the 25th century. He was originally given his “Booster” nickname while he was still in his playing days. Everyone around Mike always told him that once he went pro, the fame and fortune was pretty much guaranteed. He lacked the patience to wait however, which eventually led to him gambling on his own games. Due to his crimes becoming public public, his pro football aspirations came to a screeching halt.

As a result of hit football career taking a swan drive, along with his reputation, he eventually takes a job at the Metropolis Space Museum. While working at the museum, he begins to dig into the history of the early age of superheroes. After stealing technology from the museum, and using the time machine on display at the museum, he traveled to the past. Where, he thought, he could find the fame and fortune he always wanted as a superhero, in a time where his criminal history is completely unknown to anyone. He and his robot companion named Skeets, arrive in the modern era where Mike takes on the mantle of Booster Gold.

After numerous adventures with his new best friend Ted Kord, (The Blue Beetle) in addition to teaming up with the Justice League on multiple occasions, Booster has actually become a true superhero. Though he can still be a bit of a ham from time to time, hogging the spotlight and eagerly taking full credit for his heroic exploits. Yet, on the other hand, Booster has become a genuinely good person, who will drop everything for someone in need.

Reading Recommendations

First of all, I would start off with the original run of ‘Booster Gold’ that ran from 1986 – 1988. This is where the world was first introduced to the character. You’ll learn about his back story, his personality, and learn how he established in the modern era of superheroes.

Second, another self titled run, ‘Booster Gold’ from 2007 is long, but great! Just after the events of the New 52, Booster Gold wants his fair share-a spot on the Justice League. The time stream is a mess though, and now Booster has to make a tough decision. Reclaim his former glory, or do the right thing, and have no one know of his exploits to fix the time stream.

Thirdly, if you’re looking for some of the most recent Booster Gold content, you’ll want to check out ‘Blue & Gold’ from 2021. In this run, Booster teams up with his all time best friend Ted Kord (Blue Beetle) to help Booster navigate the world of social media influencers, ever after the fame and fortune he has always craved. Blue Beetle has the money, and most importantly the brains, to increase his friends’ social influence online. Yes, you read that correctly, Booster Gold is about to go viral!
