Catch up with End of Life #1!

The Story

Eddie finds himself back at home with his dying father, and he couldn’t be more excited to leave. With a hit on his head and trained assassins looking to make a quick buck by taking him out, he has no other option but to hide out. Unfortunately, the town is the exact opposite of what he’s used to. The people of Pluto are kind and generous and go out of their way to help each other. They spend their time at farmers markets, helping their neighbor, and taking pride in their work. Eddie comes from a life of high quality champagne and fancy suits. He cannot relate to these people in the slightest and looks down on them, which is unsurprising from Eddie.

The father Eddie can leave this town behind him, the better. However, he finds out very quickly that even the people he’s trusted in his life do not have his best interests at heart. It’s only a matter of time before the Menagerie find him, and time is running out fast.

Kyle Stark continues the thrilling story of Eddie and the Menagerie by building multiple worlds at once. Eddie’s world and the town of Pluto are two wildly different places and seeing Eddie in a place that’s completely out of his comfort zone was fantastic to read. I’m really looking forward to what’s next as Starks has me completely hooked.

The Art

The artwork for End of Life #2 rivals the first issue in the best way. The people of Pluto are drawn in a way that allows you to see the good in them, while Eddie is shown as an outcast who thinks he’s better than them all. The facial expressions on each character give great insight into who they are, and that’s thanks to Steve Pugh.

Chris O’Halloran handles the colors, and does a brilliant job at mixing the more muted tones with vibrancy. Using Eddie’s vibrant red suit as a focal point at the farmers market was very well done and did a great job showing just how different he is to those around him.

There’s a fight scene that I think puts Pugh and O’Halloran’s talents on full display, and shows how well they work off of each other. Complimenting the other’s work, the artists made the fight feel larger than life, while still keeping the scene maintained.

Final Thoughts

End of Life #2 is proof that the first issue wasn’t just a strong start, but a good example of the top quality that creative team is delivering through this series.

Overall Grade – 9/10

The Story:

Matt: This issue packs an emotional and electric punch in its panels. I love how Stephanie can bring the pure rage and sadness to the surface for so many of these characters, including Jen, who is usually stoic and quippy. As this issue goes on, I can feel Jen no longer holding back, having faced betrayal and uncovered a little more about her cousin’s council and how he ran things on Sakaar. It culminates heavily in an epic moment where She-Hulk takes matters into her own hands and destroys an army out to wreak more havoc and bring death. This run has been nothing short of incredible and full of moments bringing fun and invoking emotions.

Megan: Planet She-Hulk #5 exhibits the perfect way to build tension to the point that the reader is on the edge of their seat. She-Hulk just witnessed the murder of a good man by someone she trusted while the love of her life has been brainwashed. Things are heating up faster and faster until She-Hulk is saved by someone unexpected. In staying in her new safe haven, She-Hulk is offered the idea of being Sakaar’s new ruler, which she has never wanted. She just wanted to go home to her own life, instead of continuing this favor for her cousin. Of course, She-Hulk never gets to relax for long as the new safe haven is attacked by Korven’s army. She-Hulk proves that she is more than qualified to be queen, but is it even something she wants?

Art and Letters:

Matt: There is rawness and a stoicism to how the art is detailed in this issue by Kuder. The way the close-ups on Jen and Elara’s faces were drawn, simplistic yet their eyes were packed with emotion, which told the story for itself in the panels. In terms of the action, the sequences where Jen doesn’t hold back and showcases her raw power were incredibly well done. It was so much fun watching the duo portray her strength on the panels of this issue. The art in this issue may just be my favorite of the run yet!

Megan: The artwork of Planet She-Hulk #5 is emotional and tragic in the most beautiful way. Aaron Kuder, the artist of the comic, perfectly captured the heightened emotions of the comic. There is one panel that shows Elara in tears and it’s so much heartbreak in one panel, which speaks to Kudor’s talents. Sonia Oback handles the colors and does a beautiful job at mixing vibrancy with this dystopian world full of dust and violence. Joe Caramagna is the letterer, and puts the emotions of the characters as a top priority in the story. You’re able to jump from different perspectives and feel what the characters feel in their dialogue.

Final Thoughts:

Matt: 10/10 Planet She-Hulk #5 brings us to a point of no return, and Jen is no longer holding back. We see her reluctantly step into the role of queen and into her cousin’s shoes as she gathers her army to fight back for the fate of Sakaar.

Megan: 10/10 Planet She-Hulk #5 is the perfect example of building tension and making the reader feel every bit of it. This issue is an emotional roller coaster that you don’t want to get off of.

Writing

Megan: After seeing Marc in a state of confusion and not knowing who he was, we see him finally let loose as his alter ego, Moon Knight. Brought back to his old self by Zodiac, Marc has a lot of anger to get out with the way he was treated. While this is happening, his captors are very aware that Marc Spector is back. Scrambling and making a run for it, one villain remains that has always had his eye on Moon Knight. Now with more than one enemy looking to take Moon Knight down, and one that’s actively working against him to see him off the leash, Marc has more than enough on his hands.

Jed MacKay continues this new series and new look at Marc Spector in a whole different light. With how mysteriously the last issue started, and now to this thrilling issue, MacKay is really taking you on a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Shawn: When writers start to reach long runs on a single character the way Jed MacKay has with Moon Knight, you begin to wonder when they’re going to lose a step. Even some of the longest runs in Marvel history were interrupted for guest writers to reset the story or give the main writer a break. Marc Spector: Moon Knight shows that MacKay doesn’t seem to plan on stopping any time soon.

This issue continues to give us something new and fresh from Moon Knight, despite being at almost 50 issues of MacKay writing the character. MacKay manages to use familiar characters and lore from the history of Moon Knight to create exciting and original stories that manage to even feel different from his previous runs on Moon Knight. I love the decision by MacKay to use some familiar big bads from Moon Knight history in new ways.

Art

Megan: The artwork of Marc Spector: Moon Knight #2 masterfully captures the excitement of the story. Marc isn’t pulling any punches and doesn’t care who gets in his way. Dev Pramanik draws the fight scenes so you’re able to feel the impact of every punch. He’s accompanied by Rachelle Rosenberg, who handles the colors. Rosenberg always delivers the most striking artwork, especially when it comes to Moon Knight. Practically popping off the pages, Rosenberg makes Moon Knight the focal point with his glowing white aura against the different shades of red.

Shawn: What an absolutely gorgeous issue Marc Spector: Moon Knight #2 is. Dev Pramanik really gets better with every single work that gets put out. This issue really showed how Pramanik can use a variety of panels to add to the story and continue to enhance it in new ways.

The panels at times were chaotic in the best way, making you feel like you were struggling and in a fight with Moon Knight himself. Rachelle Rosenberg absolutely nails the colors, choosing the perfect blend of color and shadow to make this episode feel bold from a color standpoint while still maintaining the grit readers have come to expect from Moon Knight. With the work Pramanik and Rosenberg put in the varying up the panels, Cory Petit had his work cut out for him but the comic was still easy to follow. Despite the variety of panels used, my eyes always flowed easily without feeling like I was searching out where to go next.

Final Thoughts

Megan: 9/10. Jed MacKay continues to thrive with Moon Knight and brings a story that’s an emotional roller coaster full of action and importance.

Shawn: 10/10. This is yet another solid issue in MacKay’s work on Moon Knight. This issue was the complete package. MacKay did a great job with writing, but you can also tell that MacKay has faith in the visual team in the times he stepped back, limited the narration, and let the visuals tell the story. There’s one particular page in this issue that collectively may be the best work I’ve ever seen from Cory Petit in a history full of great work.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

Catch up with Cyclops #1!

The Story

After having the Quinjet shot down, Cyclops is now without his visors and is essentially blind. According to Cyclops, without his visors, his head is like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. Add this to the fact that he’s lost in the jungle and he’s being hunted by the Reavers, then this is the perfect storm.

When he comes to after his crash landing, he wakes up to a young mutant named Mei. Mei is the one who pulled him out of the crash thanks to her mutant powers. While her powers came in handy, they’re the exact reason why she was taken by the Reavers. Now, Mei is on the run after getting out of the shock collar put onto her by the Reavers. While Mei is on the run, her mutant friends remain as working hostages for the Reavers and are in terrible danger at the hands of these violent cyborgs.

Alex Paknadel continues the thrilling story of Cyclops, and now with a new teammate at his side, Mei. There’s a great deal of action throughout the comic, as well as factors that make the story hit even harder. What I really appreciated was a look at how ruthless the Reavers truly are. They have been around for quite some time, but newer comic book readers might not be aware of exactly how sinister they can be. Paknadel does a great job at showing exactly who Scott is dealing with and hinting at the extensive backstory with these crazed cyborgs and the X-Men.

The Art

First and foremost, I have to say that the cover art is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to Federico Vicentini and Marcio Menyz, you get a really good look at what you can expect from inside the comic.

Inside Cyclops #2, Rogê Antônio goes heavy on the details, which is complimented brilliantly by Fer Sifuentes-Sujo’s colors. Both artists’ talents shine brightly throughout the comic as you see some great action panels with fire power that ups the excitement level. Alongside them is Joe Caramagna, who handles the letters. Through Caramagna’s work, you can feel the menacing voices of the Reavers, or the frustration from Mei. All three artists truly outdid themselves with this one!

Final Thoughts

Cyclops #2 proves that the first issue was much more than just a strong start, but the beginning of something special. Stakes are high, emotions are through the roof, and the energy is immaculate.

Overall Grade – 9.5/10

ABSOLUTE FLASH #13: Hall of Mirrors

Wally West is still dealing with the fallout of what happened in Colorado while trying to move forward with his life. Linda has discovered his secret powers, and the two of them have gone off to make sense of what could happen, leading them into the world of The Mirror Master!

SPOILERS AHEAD

The Story:

Jeff is picking up right where we left off and at the same time delivering a bit of a lighter and more refreshing tone. First of all, Wally listens to Metalcore, which has been my personality since 2003, so he is cool in my book as is. However, Wally and Linda’s budding relationship in this issue brings a breath of fresh air. To this point, everything has been so chaotic for Wally, and Linda sees him and embraces who he is. Jeff writes their adventure in such an endearing manner that I was truly caught off guard when they ended up trapped in Mirror Masters world!

The Art and Letters:

Haining takes over the artwork in this issue, and the details remain amazing. The moments where Wally has Linda on his back, running as The Flash, showed the amount of joy on their faces and the world moving past them. There is a panel, however, where Wally recounts his mom and his childhood, where his memories blend seamlessly from his hair in such a smooth transition. The colors from Lucas continue to burst from the pages and the panels when entering the speed force, the softer pallets when the duo sit and are eating fries, for example, were what stood out to me. This issue and run continue to be some of the best artwork in the Absolute universe.

Final Thoughts:

Absolute Flash #13 takes us into the next chapter for Wally, changing up the pace ever so slightly and teasing the next challenge in his life.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Return of Battle Beast

The comic book community has been without our fearless Battle Beast since October of 2025. This returning issue is a continuation from issue six. Issue seven brings you right back to the ending of the battle with the Juggernaut. Battle Beast is injured but not dead. Which as fans of this series will know, does not sit well with his mission in life. For those questioning what Battle Beast’s mission in life is, you will need to go back and read issues one through six.

Readers are also reintroduced to Prince Salaka, the alien creature that is assisting Battle Beast in his quest for the ultimate battle. He has taken on a new look from the previous issues within this story. Which brought me much satisfaction seeing that he got what he has been wanting for quite a while. With him is also the computer from the ship they were using for transportation through space. The computer is also dawning a new look as well which is bringing much joy to Prince Salaka.

Battle Beast is healing from his injuries when he becomes irritated with his previous performance and is ready for another battle to prove that he is either the strongest fighter in the galaxy or finally fulfilling his life’s mission. This is when Prince Salaka throws shade at Battle Beast. Guilt tripping him into going back to finish off what he started. It is in this moment that you get a sense of a newly found respect for Prince Salaka from Battle Beast.

This returning issue ends with the return of a previous character with the promise of something big to come in upcoming issues. Proving that Battle Beast may in-fact get what he has wanted from the start of this series…

The Writing

Robert Kirkman took some time off from this series and did not lose a single step with its return! This continuation issue picks up perfectly! There is comedic dialogue between characters as well as raw displays of emotion between characters. Battle Beast is not one for many words, but when dialogue is given to him it is meaningful and direct. The storyline for this issue is so fluid to follow, especially if you have read the previous six issues.

The Artwork

Ryan Ottley & Annalisa Leoni complement each other’s work so perfectly! The pencil work for the characters is so smooth. And that dynamic shifts to a rougher texture when looking at background images/details. The coloration and shading are stunning. The colors are used in a fantastic way to help bring out minor details within characters and surrounding pieces of the panels. The splash panels within this issue are such a joy to look at. Bright colors take control of all background space allowing the characters within those panels to have somewhat of a “spotlight”.

Rus Wooton is simply showing off his talents as a letterer within this issue. The sizing, font, and placement of dialogue bubbles is spot on! Perfectly placed in panels that get your attention but also in a way that doesn’t take away from the depiction of the story from the art. Lastly, the action lettering is fantastic! You will have to read this issue to see what I mean!

My Thoughts

I personally have never gotten into the Invincible Universe till Battle Beast was announced. When I first saw the announcement for issue one, I knew I wanted to know more about this giant white lion character. Since then, I have been a major fan of this series! The return of this series has been something I have been waiting for (like all of the other fans).

This issue gives you more character development for Prince Salaka, which is fantastic to see. Battle Beast himself has not changed at all, and I am hoping that he continues to stay the same! Although this issue does not have the same amount of action as previous issues, it is still needed to help the storytelling. Readers need to see the main character get knocked down, and how he responds to that.

Go out today and get your copy of this returning issue! You will not be sorry! Especially with the opening comedic pages featuring Prince Salaka!

Grade:10/10!

DC Comics Announces 3 New Elseworlds Series

DC Comics have announced 3 new series for their Elseworlds line. 

Supergirl: Survive #1 Cover A By Rod Reis (Credit: DC Comics)

2 are for this summer’s Summer Of Supergirl, and the other one is a continuation of a very popular series. Up first is a new Supergirl series. 

Supergirl: Survive has teenage Kara Zor-El and infant Kal-El launched into a hostile universe. Krypton is burning around them, and has to find a way to survive. The series full description reads: 

“Kara Zor-El lives a life of small problems—school dances, family squabbles, and the impossible task of holding her floppy baby cousin Kal—but Krypton has big ones. As General Zod tightens his grip and the planet begins to burn, Kara and Kal are launched into the stars together, trapped in a prototype rocket and fighting to survive a universe that doesn’t care if they live or die.” 

Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan are writing the series, while Rod Reis is doing the art and covers.  The series is out on June 3rd.

Meanwhile, the other Summer Of Supergirl series launching is Superman: Father of Tomorrow. This series has Jor-El as the one in the rocket that crashed into Kansas. The series full description reads: 

“When the planet Krypton explodes, a lone rocket escapes the destruction—not carrying Kal-El, but his father. Jor-El crash-lands in Kansas, where a kindly couple takes him in. As he adjusts to life on Earth, Jor-El discovers he can help his new home not only with his powers, but with his brilliant mind. This is the story of a Man of Steel and Science—and the world he saves.”

Kenny Porter is writing the book, while Danny Earls is doing the art and covers as well. The book is launching ahead of Supergirl: Survive on May 27th. 

The other series that is coming is Dark Knights of Steel II. Now Tom Taylor is writing it, while Otto Schmidt is doing the art for it, and Yasmine Putri is doing the covers for it. More details for the series will be announced in the coming months.

Invincible Season 4 Non-Spoiler Review: A New Journey Begins

When it comes to Invincible, you know that you will get non-stop action. Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) is one of the most ground-breaking heroes that I’ve ever seen. During this season, there are so many elements that are being explored. I was surprised that mental health, religion, and what makes a hero are being heavily explored. Once again, Mark makes choices that will have effects on himself, and others.

Some of my favorite characters are back that I absolutely love to see. (No spoilers, though). There are also some new faces that Mark will be up against. Season 4 has constant action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It feels like this season has topped the previous ones, while giving me that same exciting feeling that I had in season one. While, the animation continues to knock it out of the park with that standard crisp look we’ve come to expect from INVICIBLE.

Robert Kirkman is heavily involved with the series, and I’m so glad he is. He gives each character so much depth, and you can see what each of them is thinking or going through.

This season is a 10/10 once again. Just comparing each season, to me it gets better and better with age. I also love that each season is relevant to what is going on. Even with the absence of technology, which I thought was interesting. The characters do not rely a lot on it, and it’s refreshing to see. I’m hoping to also see more of the beloved characters we’ve gotten to see over the course of these last few years. I just hope by the end of Invincible, they land the series finale, and I’ll be satisfied with the ending.

M.E.D.I.C.I. seems to play the part of the big bad wolf. This colossal entity with endless resources and nefarious intentions. But better yet it’s a reference to the real life Tuskegee experiments. Which is an unfortunate and dark part of our history that is not commonly known as it should be. Unsurprisingly, M.E.D.I.C.I. is pushing their products and services for free trials to volunteers in a HBCU in the south of the United States. James’ life will be directly impacted by the actions of this Mega Corporation. He will endeavor a path that takes him from the lived African-American experience to gaining cosmic awareness.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

Undoubtedly, Uchenna Ugbor crafted an easy-to-follow and easy-to-digest visual story. There’s plenty of scenes with palpable emotions because of the uncomfortable conversations the characters have with each other. Moreover, when the characters of James and Etta navigate difficult yet common situations of micro-aggression or racism, the pencils from Ugbor do not shy away from the moment. Finally, do not let the vibrant coloring deceive you. Though Psion might be bright and shiny on the surface, this is a cosmic thriller. 

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

FINAL THOUGHTS

Finally, I want to highlight the writing by Mark Bandy. That is another area where Psion excels. There’s real life history poured in this fictional world that makes it all too eerie or familiar, depending on your life experience. If you’ve never heard about this history, Psion is pointing it out for you to do the leg work and learn it. But if you know this is history, it’s just a reminder of how dark life was and can be for some.

Historical accuracy and lectures aside, Psion has rich and complex characters. There’s compelling and interesting internal struggles and interpersonal conflicting ideals that make it all very much alive. Psion is one of those independent works that was made by a specifically informed life experience that transcends barriers. I highly recommend you check it out.

Marvel Comics Reveals New Details For Captain America #12

Marvel Comics have announced new details for this summer’s Issue #12 of Writer Chip Zdarsky and Artists Frank Alpizar & Delio Diaz’s Captain America series.

Now, Zdarsky is writing the upcoming Avengers: Armageddon mini-series, and what happens in Issues #8-11 of Captain America will be the prologue for what’s ahead, while #12 will serve as a tie-in to the event. 

Now, Marvel did reveal that the current arc: 

“Sees Captain America accompany the all-new S.H.I.E.L.D. into Latveria to maintain order in Doctor Doom’s absence. But Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, A.K.A. Red Hulk, is determined to enact revenge on Latveria, and his actions have dire repercussions, both for Captain America and the world. As the world—and a new team of Avengers—unites against Red Hulk in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, Captain America finds himself enlisted in a startling war against his will, serving at the behest of Victor Von Doom! 

Doom, not seen since his fall in last year’s ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM (2025), needs Cap’s help for his most ambitious plan ever in shocking arc that continues to boldly redefine Captain America and Doctor Doom’s dynamic and serves as a key companion piece to AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON.”

As far what’s to come in Issue #12, we did a little bit of info: 

“After S.H.I.E.L.D.’s campaign in Latveria meets a brutal and violent end, Captain America finds himself in the last place he expected to be, alongside the last person he expected to see again. Where has Victor Von Doom been since ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, and what does he want with Steve Rogers? Find out here as everything hurtles toward ARMAGEDDON!” 

Chip Zdarsky had this to say about the upcoming issue: 

“I love writing Doom. After my first arc with him and Cap, I knew I needed them to meet again! Their dynamic is incredibly fun and this encounter will change both characters for a very long time!” 

Captain America #12 goes on sale June 24th.
