BATTLE BEAST #6 – Is The Beast Finally Outmatched??

I’ve been waiting all month for Battle Beast #6, especially after last month’s big tease. It seems as if the Beast has finally … FINALLY met his match.

Will he get the glorious death he’s been dreaming of for ages. As his new adversary says, “Baby, this is the end.”

Or is it … You’ll have to read issue #6 to find out. No matter if he meets his maker or not, this issue will be “delicious.” Ummm and that ending … GOOD LAWD!!

The Art:

Ryan Ottley has a way of transporting you to another world effortlessly.

From this new, ugly purple people eater to the Beast himself, he really is able to do action, emotion and intensity like no other.

But all in a fun, Invincible kind of way. Sure, there’s blood and guts, but it’s also meant to be an escape!

And no one pairs with Robert Kirkman’s writing quite the same as Ottley. This duo just works and that’s why they’ve been working together for years.

The Writing:

Well, it’s Kirkman so you know it’s going to have the perfect mix of lore, action and humor.

During the big battle that tests Beast like no other, he taunts his new opponent so much so, even saying that her brother put up more of a fight than she has. She doesn’t take kindly to the comparison and it’s a great way to tinker with gender norms in an action comic.

Then there’s the classic Kirkman humor. Even during the most intense battle scenes, there’s always a joke or a light-hearted way to break the tension.

And literally one minute later, he throws in a line like “not over … just beginning,” that gets your heart racing yet again and pumped for more action. It’s like he’s tapped into the reader’s dopamine receptors and is just playing with us in the best way possible.

The ending is pretty insane too. You absolutely get a look at some Invincible foes we know and even teases more. The action is about to explode in issue 7.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

That damn tease at the end. My lord, what else can this book throw at us, now we have even more heavy hitters ready to step into the series and I genuinely have no idea what’s coming. I just know it’s going to be a blast!
