Comic Creators at MEGACON Orlando 2026

While comic conventions have become hubs for giant celebrity meet & greets, the heart of every con will always be the Comic Book Creators.

At every comic convention these days, the movies based on comic book characters seem to be everywhere you turn. From statues, to pops, to cosplay, and the celebrities who play them on the big and little screens. However, every comic book movie started with a comic book, and some of the talent behind those books can be found at the cons. In artist alley you can find them selling their comics, signing them, taking pictures, or just talking nerdy things to each other and the guests. You can also find many of them in panels.

MEGACON Orlando 2026 had some fantastic Comic Creator panels

We went to a few different panels this past weekend at MEGACON Orlando, and here are some fun facts and stories we took away. Our first panel featured the married couple comic powerhouse: The Jamandaverse, featuring Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner. They talked their comic origins, and Jimmy described Amanda’s art as “disgustingly cute.” Their origin led them to ‘The Pro’ in the early 2000s with Garth Ennis. This superhero parody pushed some boundaries and tested the waters for Ennis who went on to do ‘The Boys.’

They also talked some of their current work, including Harley Quinn & Elvira, and Jimmy’s recently wrapped Punisher/Daredevil run, and his current book Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger. They have a history horror comic coming soon from Mad Cave Studios. More details will be dropping soon.

The DC Absolute Universe

Some of the comic creators currently working on the DC Absolute books got together to talk what’s been going on, and what we can expect. We learned they weren’t sure where this would all go, but they decided to aim big, and it’s paying off. Scott Snyder said he’s never had so much fun in comics, and they’ve got a big finale coming that’s been in the works for awhile. I personally have never had so many DC books on my pull list before. ‘All In‘ has gone back for its third printing, while ‘DC K.O.‘ is on its fourth, and ‘The Dakota Incident‘ sold out.

Jeremy Adams, Morgan Hampton, Paul Kaminski, Belen Ortega, Javi Fernandez, and Scott Snyder at MEGACON Orlando 2026

Jeremy Adams teased that his upcoming Green Lantern run featuring Kyle Rayner, will have a Peter Parker feel. In a sense that things are not going his way. He also mentioned he took from his own life when he first moved out to LA to create this story.

We also learned that Belen Ortega joked that she wanted to draw her Corgis when Tom King asked what she would like to draw more of. She got her wish, as there is now a mini series featuring her corgis. A casual joke turned her dogs into superheroes!

As all the writers and artists continued to praise each other (rightfully so), Scott mentioned that there are 50 issues of Absolute Batman planned, and so long as people keep buying them, there is no end in sight. He’s got a lot of story to tell.

Panels for Writing Comics

Whether or not you have a desire to write comics, these types of panels are a lot of fun. If you’re interested in becoming a comic book writer, you get some great advice from some actual writers. If not, you get some fantastic background stories. We attended 2 different panels regarding writing for comics, and here are some stories we enjoyed.

While each panel began with origin stories that led them to writing comics, Ethan Sacks joked he thought this job wasn’t real. It was like being a Keebler elf. Chris Condon, mentioned that when writing IP (meaning already established characters that someone else owns), he thinks about what moved him when he would read their stories. Jody Houser then mentioned that reading as much as you can, can help tremendously. She consumed as many comics as she could to help her with pacing when she writes her stories.

Tini Howard, Kenny Porter, Meghan Fitzmartin, and Heather Antos

In another panel, pitches were discussed. Comic writers don’t just get to write, they got to sell their ideas too. Some tips were: plan it, no self deprecation, you need a hook, look at every comic as a new business, have some ideas ready in case approached, and so much more!

There were also writing tips too. If you’re feeling not so creative, go to a library, museum, or book store. Take bad things that have happened to you and spin them into good. Write a story you want to read! STAY CURIOUS! If you want to break into comics, you should definitely find a con, and scan that schedule closely. These panels were both fantastic.

Comics have gone Hollywood

The last comic panel we attended was ‘Comics and Hollywood: Movies, TV, and Animation.’ We learned that without the animated X-Men show, we never would have gotten X-Men (2000). The director Bryan Singer never read a comic, but he was a fan of the show. A show which only adapted 2 comic storylines: Days of Future Past, and the Phoenix Saga. All the other stories were original.

With these characters becoming so “Hollywood” on the big screen (and little), animators have actually had more freedom to do as they like. Stephen Platt, who worked on Iron Man (2008), said that was the best film he ever worked on. It was an amazing experience for him. They of course had no idea the massive empire they were building. Iron Man was a risk at the time.

Heather Antos, Craig Kyle, Larry F. Houston, Greg Weisman, and Stephen Platt

We then learned that animation is sent out for edits, and returned before airing. If the return package has errors with no time to fix, it can get tricky. They all then laughed at an old Fantastic 4 cartoon that featured 2 Reeds for a second. We then wrapped with Craig Kyle (one of the creators of Laura Kinney X-23), saying how grateful he is for James Mangold bringing Laura to life in the movie Logan (2017). As someone who cosplayed as Laura at MEGACON, I couldn’t agree more.

DON’T SKIP THE SMALL PANELS

The celebrity panels at cons can be a blast, but they also always make their way to YouTube. I can’t recommend taking the time to do a few of the smaller panels. They’re more intimate and engaging, and you usually can’t find them on YouTube.

‘WRITING Star Wars’ Panel at MEGACON Orlando 2026

Between the movies and the TV shows lie countless comic books and novels tying everything Star Wars together. This year at MEGACON Orlando a few comic and novel writers gave us a glimpse behind the curtain at this ever changing galaxy.

As a late Star Wars bloomer, who truly fell hard once I watched the cartoons and started reading the novels, this was an amazing panel! It featured Heather Antos, Timothy Zahn, Claudia Grey, and Jason Aaron.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Timothy Zahn is responsible for 2 Thrawn trilogies. A Legends one (meaning non canon), and a canon one. So we have him to thank for giving us Grand Admiral Thrawn. Zahn told us how he saw ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ about 16 times in theaters the year it came out. He then told us how writing Star Wars was a dream he didn’t know he had, because at the time (in the 80s) it wasn’t a thing.

When asked about creating Thrawn he explained he wanted someone who was different, but could inspire loyalty. Someone who was a tactical strategist, as well as a genius, but a leader who also listens. Thereby inspiring those below him to want to follow. If you only know Thrawn through Star Wars: Rebels, or the Disney+ Ahsoka show, I cannot recommend the new trilogy enough! They made me absolutely fall in love with him. Also, any fellow Disney adults out there will get a kick out of where the second book takes place.

*If you don’t have time to read the novels, there is a comic book series that sums them up very well. Check out the review for the first comic: Thrawn Alliances #1

Thrawn Alliances by Timothy Zahn.

These Star Wars stories are so much more than filler

Honestly this entire panel was so engaging, informative, and entertaining. So as to not make this article insanely long, here are some highlights I loved hearing.

All four of these writers are truly fans first, and it showed in their enthusiasm, as well as it does in their work. Jason Aaron mentioned he writes comic stories he feels Star Wars needs. He doesn’t just want to entertain, he wants to build this galaxy where it needs growth. Meanwhile Claudia, who helped make the High Republic and created the Nihil, explained how she views Yoda as a political bureaucrat by the time we get to the prequels. Showing just how different that High Republic era was, and how it all changed. The Nihil was created to cause conflict during this time of peace.

Claudia also talked about how Luke wasn’t the only one who learned Vader was his father, yet we never saw Leia grieve. Only Luke. Even though Vader also blew up her entire planet with the only parents she knew, on it. Well, Claudia explained how she fixed that with her novel Bloodlines. Which I immediately then went and bought from her.

Check out a review for a STAR WARS novel: Phasma

Keeping Star Wars consistent

In keeping this galaxy contained and consistent, there are some rules they have to follow. Especially the further along we get. Sometimes there are limits on what they can do with Vader, and sometimes certain characters are completely off limits. They also have a “story group” now which helps keep stories, planets, characters, and more, consistent.

There’s more to Star Wars than just wars

We wrapped with some fun questions. When asked what characters they would want to write, Zahn mentioned he’d love to see a story told about Obi-Wan right after dropping baby Luke off on Tattooine. He believes that Obi-Wan would have traveled the galaxy to throw off the empire before settling down and becoming Old Ben. Meanwhile Jason said, “Ewoks.” While, Heather mentioned a story about Obi-Wan and Satine which the audience enthusiastically agreed with.

Another fun question was what jobs they each might have if they lived in the Star Wars galaxy. Claudia wants to be Lando Calrissian’s cape designer, Jason believes he’d be dead, Heather wants to be a Jawa, and Zahn wants to join Talon Karrde. He smuggles info and Zahn wants to be in the know!

Go to the smaller panels at conventions

I absolutely LOVE how these Star Wars writers are flushing out stories and characters, and making the entire galaxy so much richer. If you haven’t already, grab some Star Wars novels and comics! It will make you fall deeper in love with all things STAR WARS.

Marvel Comics Reveals New Details For Queen In Black

0

Marvel Comics have revealed new details about the upcoming Queen In Black event.

MORE FROM NI HERE

Queen In Black is spinning out of Al Ewing’s work on the 2025 Venom comic, and the recent Knull comic, where:

“Hela seized Knull’s throne, forcing the God of the Void to claim a new power for himself. Their conflict erupts across the cosmos, coming to a head on Earth where Marvel’s heroes are all that stand in the way of the world being torn asunder by the forces of Light and Dark, both bent on enveloping the universe in their own brand of nothingness!”

Queen In Black #1 Cover A By Ryan Stegman (Credit: Marvel Comics)

Now, outside of the main series centering on Spider-Man, Venom, Mary Jane, Eddie Brock, and Dylan Brock, this new series is also going to have an impact on the other corners of the Marvel Universe. Queen In Black’s full description reads:

“HEL ON EARTH!

On the farthest edges of the solar system, Knull, God of the Void, builds a brand-new army to destroy Earth… but Hela of Asgard might have gotten there first – as she makes planetfall with a legion of the galaxy’s deadliest symbiotes! Two of the most powerful evils in the galaxy are at war… A cosmic collision of evil versus evil with Venom, Mary Jane and Dylan Brock caught right in the middle!”

Al Ewing had this to say about the new series:

“The only threat bigger than one evil God is two of them fighting each other, with Earth caught right in the middle. As an old-school ‘60s Marvel villain, Hela’s a great match-up against the newer school of Knull, especially given the steps she’s been taking to get onto his level. There can only be one winner – but whoever wins, it’s the worst news possible for our heroes.”

Alongside the series, Marvel is also releasing new True Believers Blind Bags for the first issue. These will give fans a chance to get exclusive variants that would not be available otherwise. Those covers may include:

  • Design Variant Cover by Ryan Stegman
  • Swimsuit Variant Cover by David Nakayama
  • Jeff and Knull Variant Cover by Gurihuru
  • Alternate Webhead Foil Variant Cover by Pat Gleason
  • Variant Cover by Artgerm
  • Virgin Variant Cover by Artgerm

  • Alternate Homage Variant Cover by Ryan Stegman
  • Marvel Rivals Variant Cover by Netease Games
  • All Black Blank Variant Cover

Imperfect Women Season 1 Episode 3 Review: A New Secret?

This episode starts of the continuation of episode 2, where Eleanor has now come at a crossroads. This episode again has me thinking about how much I am not rooting for Eleanor.

Eleanor keeps doing things that constantly get her in trouble.  Meanwhile, Nancy needs more assistance with her life. Nancy is one of those housewives that are needed to be pacified a lot.  Mary once again seems like a clueless character who happens to be taken through a rollercoaster. I love how each of these characters, even though friends, still continues to have secrets from each other.

Credit: Elizabeth Moss and Kerry Washington in ‘Imperfect Women’ Apple +

One question that I posed from the non-spoiler review is, what does it mean to be a girl’s girl? I definitely would never trust any of these women with any of these secrets.

I really like this episode, because it is fast paced and it gives a lot of information. Especially some of the reasoning why Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy do the things that they do in the series. Eleanor’s life seems to be falling quickly, and there is no stopping all of it. Mary seems supportive throughout this episode, and I really enjoy Mary’s character only because she actually cares about the other u wtwo ladies. Even in the previous episodes, it didn’t’ seem that Nancy and Eleanor reciprocated  the love and appreciation of each other, especially in times of crisis.

Credit: Kate Mara in ‘Imperfect Women’ Apple +

As the audience continues to watch these series, I am cautiously learning more and more about these three ladies. Within their messy lives, there is so much information to take in. One question that still arises, though, is who killed Nancy?

What did you think of Episode 3? Sound off in the comments below!

Writing

Megan: So much happened in the second issue of Deadly Hands of K’un-Lun, that you’ll be surprised it was all in just one issue. Yifan Jiang writes the exciting events very gracefully, with every story have its proper flow. What I really enjoyed was the fantastic action we got throughout the comic amongst so many characters. As the war for the Seven Cities carries on, the stakes are higher than ever. Iron Fist, Daredevil, and White Tiger make an incredible team as they work off each other very well. Iron Fist finds himself easily distracted during the fights as he is trying to wrap his head around what’s happening. Pei and White Fox finds themselves deeper into the war than they’d ever believed, but still fight on as warriors. Once you get to the end, you’re left with a huge reveal that truly shocked me.

Shawn: Woah what a turn of events. I’m usually pretty perceptive but Yifan Jiang completely fooled me on this one. The big reveal at the end of this issue caught me off guard and I love it.
The first two issues of this series have been fairly dense and a lot to cover but Jiang has done a great job of building a narrative. Jiang crafts an issue that makes me want to keep reading and pick up the next issue. I also love the collection of characters that Jiang has assembled for this series,. The teams make sense even though they aren’t always characters you would see together. The story works despite the unlikely team up.

Art

Megan: Paco Medina, Ceci de la Cruz, and Travis Lanham perfectly captured the mystic art of the action in the pages of Deadly Hands of K’un-Lun #2. Each side story is beautifully detailed by Paco Medina, who makes you feel like you’re right in the action. Ceci de la Cruz brings a great amount of vibrancy that makes the characters feel larger than life. Travis Lanham allows the emotions of the story to shine brightly through the dialogue while having some really great sound effects to accompany the high energy action.

Shawn: Paco Medina, Alessandro Miracolo, and Ceci de la Cruz did an amazing job in this issue. The colors, textures, and lines are gorgeous. Even in the earliest panels there’s beautiful attention to detail highlighting the beauty in the details and decor of K’un-Lun. I’m always a fan of when word bubbles transcend the panel lines and Travis Lanham delivers. Lanham balances the narrative with preserving the art and the details.

One of the highlights of this series has been the detail in costumes and that continues in this issue. Bandages, buttons, tassels, even masks look incredible. This series features some of the most expansive colors usage I’ve seen in a comic and it really helps show the beauty of these locations.

Final Thoughts

Megan: 9/10. Deadly Hands of K’un-Lun #2 is all gas and no breaks throughout the entire comic. You’re hooked into the story from the beginning, and left on a very surprising reveal that catches you by surprise.

Shawn: 9/10 This series has been a pleasant surprise and the reveal at the end has me looking forward to the next issue. The art has been top notch with some beautiful details and colors that fly off the page.

Overall Grade – 9/10

The Story:

As Madame Masque continues her mission, Iron Man must defend MODOK from A.I.M. agents in order to get the information he needs. A new Citizen V comes to Tony with a warning, leaving Tony with more questions than answers. On top of all of this Iron Man action, Tony Stark has a date with a new love interest.

The Writing:

Joshua Williamson’s writing skills are on full display in this issue. Building tension, unveiling mysteries while introducing new ones, and just the right amount of humor thrown in the mix for good measure. This issue has everything an Iron Man fan could ever want. But, the thing I want to highlight is Williamson’s handling of Madame Masque. This is an incredibly deep and flawed villain that has, for a long time, been underutilized and I am so happy to see her being used to her full potential as an Iron Man foe.

The Art:

Carmen Carnero and Nolan Woodard are starting to cement themselves as top tier Iron Man artists. This art is beautiful, plain and simple. I cannot think of a single negative, not even a small nitpick. Each character, each fight scene, and every emotion on a character’s face is done with perfection. Each time MODOK was on the page, I just could not help but to smile. That creepy, giant head, tiny limbed villain has never looked so good. Of course, this is Iron Man and you can’t have Iron Man without armor… and boy oh boy this armor is a thing of beauty!

Overall Grade: 10/10

Surprise surprise, I loved an issue of this Iron Man run. At only three issues so far this story has me so deeply invested that I cannot wait to see what happens next. This is Iron Man in all his perfectly armored glory!

Wiccan: Witches’ Road #4 – You’re Never Truly Alone

The Demiurge has been kidnapped. The formerly Nameless fox has finally revealed herself as the sinister Morgan Le Fay, kidnapping a child claiming to be the Demiurge and returning to Baba Yaga so that she can claim the power for herself. With the help of some friends, Teddy and Billy seek to save the Demiurge from Baba Yaga and Morgan.

Writing

Megan: So much happens in the pages of Wiccan: Witches’ Road #4 that you’ll be surprised it was all only one issue. With Wyatt Kennedy as the writer, you just know it was written well and flowed beautifully.

In this fourth issue, we see Billy in a very vulnerable state. He has felt the burden of the Demiurge and taken steps to allow himself to be free of the weight on his shoulders. Unfortunately, that puts him in a terrible position. But it does give the opportunity to be completely truthful with Teddy about how he’s been feeling. However, even after all of that, he still has to face off with Baba Yaga. With the help of some incredible characters that come to support Billy, we see Billy find his strength again to set up the incredible conclusion in the next issue.

Shawn: Wyatt Kennedy writes such a compelling relationship between Teddy and Billy. Their ups, their downs, and everything in between feels like such a solid and honest representation of their relationship. This issue felt particularly important as Teddy and Billy got a chance to examine the importance of communication.

I loved seeing all of the action in this story. It felt like heart-pounding action interspersed with a heartwarming tale of love and trust. The issue definitely is a cliffhanger, and as the penultimate issue in this limited series, it feels like such a great setup, as Kennedy’s magical writing is bringing the arc to a close.

Art

Megan: My goodness, the artists of Wiccan: Witches’ Road #4 truly put their talents on full display. Andy Pereira, Jim Campbell, and Ariana Maher each brought their own aspects to the comic that made the artwork drip in magic. Pereira draws the characters beautifully, allowing them to all shine in their own light without watering down the others. Jim Campbell perfectly sets the tone in each panel with his use of vibrancy and the darkest colors contrasting. Maher brings a lot of depth to her work in the lettering and always establishes excitement with her fantastic sound effects work.

Shawn: Andy Pereira and Jim Campbell did outstanding work in this issue. A variety of cameos added a nice pop of color. This entire series has been beautifully drawn and colored. The entire series and this issue in particular has provided a nice contrast from the dark and dreary setting of the narrative combined with the normally bright and colorful pops that normally follow Billy and Teddy around.

The mystical elements that are present within the story are beautifully drawn and colored. The backgrounds with hues of purple and, in some cases, orange and red are particularly powerful. In one particular panel, a character’s silhouette with some minor colors but mostly shade is contrasted against the purple/pink sky, and it creates such a beautiful image. Pereira and Campbell managed to make Baba Yaga even more terrifying, which is so incredibly impressive.

Final Thoughts

Megan: 10/10. Wiccan: Witches’ Road #4 is full of action, magical chaos, and heart. Billy has been fighting a silent battle for so long, and now here he is, with the people who love him the most by his side, supporting him.

Shawn: 9/10 Wiccan: Witches’ Road continues to flesh out and build the character of Billy more and more. I really love everything I’ve read in this series. If you’re looking for heartfelt explorations of relationships and poster-worthy panels of art, then you need to be reading Wiccan: Witches’ Road. The only downside of this issue is that it is the penultimate one, making you realize you only have one issue left with this incredible creative team.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10
