The Story

This comic is reviewed by both Megan from the Vigilante Vibes Podcast and Matt from the Hops “Geek” News podcast!

Matt – Love is such a beautiful and often fickle beast as Kara comes to find out in this lesson in romantics issue! She has become smitten with perhaps the world’s most bland guy to ever hit a park bench. However, I have seen Harold and Maude, so I may be a close second in this. Anyways, Lena and the rest of Kara’s friends have her back every step of the way, which is something truly beautiful and even stronger than the affection of a tattooed poster board. Sophie is really continuing to hammer home life lessons and bring about so much fun and intrigue with each issue of this series. Every issue has me ready for the next!

Megan – In Supergirl #10, we see Kara fall hopelessly in love with the tattooed man of her dreams. Kara usually has a good head on her shoulders, so her falling head over heels is so out of character, and her friends see it. It started with Luna and Lena going to Kara’s house with a peace offering in hopes to put all their fighting behind them, but to their surprise, Kara wasn’t there. She was actually on a date, so of course, being the best friends that they are, the decide to go spy on her date. Once they’re there, completely hidden by Lena’s silence field, they see that Kara’s aura is strange. Maybe there’s more than meets the eye to this date Kara’s found herself on.

Sophie Campbell continues to bring stories of Supergirl that makes you love the character even more with each read. Supergirl #10 shows plenty of sides of Kara that are relatable and true to the character, such as her embarrassment for being under a spell or her truthfulness with Lena about whether or not she can forgive her. This comic run gets better and better, all thanks to Campbell.

The Art

Matt – The artwork in this issue is bright and wonderful and incredibly well done. When the being reveals itself, the pink crystals protruding from her head are symmetrical, and the line work is steady-handed, which stands out to me as it is not something I could ever do. The design itself is intriguing because the villain is fresh, and every panel feels like a breath of fresh air, from Kara’s suits to the team having a fun new gadget to display. The art team should be talked about more because what they continue to do is astounding every step of the way.

Megan – The artwork of Supergirl has been consistent in high quality, and the tenth issue is no exception to that. Each panel is dripping in details and fantastic contrasting colors that give even more of an exciting energy to the comic. These combined give us a very fun battle between Kara and the antagonist that turns out to be a colorful roller coaster ride that you don’t want to get off of. Along with the fantastic artwork of Joe Quinones is Dave Sharpe, who handles the lettering. Sharpe is able to nail down the different tones through the dialogue, making you feel every bit of emotion of the characters. Together, the artists knocked it out of the park, ocne again.

Final Thoughts

Matt -9.5/10. Supergirl #10 takes us back to our younger years of becoming smitten over someone we probably shouldn’t have. Thankfully, there are no mix CDs made; there is a lot of action, and even internal struggle as Kara isn’t yet ready to forgive Lena. The ending sets us up with a big cliffhanger, and I need the next issue ASAP!

Megan – 9/10. Sophie Campbell does another fantastic job with Kara’s story and has me anxiously waiting for the next issue to drop!

Overall Grade -9.25/10
