The Story:

Nova, Star-Lord, and Shuri make their way to Xandar to get help from the World Mind while the rest of the Galactic Counsel deal with the aftermath of the battle with over Wakanda Prime. Meanwhile, the masterminds behind this plot are finally revealed…

The Writing:

Jonathan Hickman continues his trend of expertly jumping between storylines in a single issue without the reader feeling a sense of whiplash. Each segment was fast paced and full of history and high stakes. While this Nova fan absolutely loved the reunion of Richard Rider and the Xandarian World Mind, the reveal of the masterminds behind this war was the high point of the issue. From the introduction of the characters to the incredible exposition dump, that didn’t feel like an exposition dump, to the mind blowing twist reveal at the end of the issue, Hickman had me on the edge of my seat!

The Art:

The art team turned in another stunning book this month. Each panel was full of frenetic energy or malicious glee and it just fits this story perfectly. The colors popped, the action looked amazing, and the emotion was beautifully conveyed. The highlight of this issue was the incredible visual storytelling of the predators in the aquarium. With each moment mirroring a move on the game board as it was being laid out. Of course, the cover captures this issue and the minimalist style really works well as a contrast to the very deep and layered story in the book.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Another perfect score for the book I look forward to the most each month. This story is shaping up to be the exact thing I’ve been looking forward to in the Cosmic corner of Marvel. Each time I finish an issue I cannot wait to read the next, this is Marvel Cosmic at it’s finest!
