The Story & Writing

When Diana is on Mouse Man’s island, it’s very clear who is running the show. No matter which local Diana can interact with, they all have one common quality: they’re only able to repeat phrases about Mouse Man. “Mice have ears” and “Mouse Man knows” are all Diana can get from a little girl she’s saved.

It makes things confusing and frustrating. The little girl isn’t the only one who’s stuck in this cycle of phrases, as it seems everyone else who lives here is stuck in it, too.

Oddly enough, some are able to utter more than just those two phrases, but it seems the ones who are farther up in the Mouse Man chain of command have this ability. Still, it’s no easy task for Diana to figure out what exactly Mouse Man knows, especially when she has a fussy baby strapped to her back.

Tom King did an excellent job building up the tension with Wonder Woman being lost in translation with the people of Mouse Man’s island. You can feel Diana’s frustration as she’s trying to help, but has no way of knowing how to do that.

What I really appreciated was how King was able to show Diana’s kindness and patience when she was in a state of confusion, all the while her daughter needed attending to. By the end of the comic, I felt just as frustrated as Diana, which shows just how well King is able to keep you hooked into the story.

The Art

There was so much to like about the art in Wonder Woman #24, all thanks to the fantastic creative team. One of my favorite parts had to be with Diana fighting off the Mouse Man’s soldiers while holding her little baby in her arms. It showed Diana’s fierceness, while also highlighting her tenderness towards her baby.

Daniel Sampere, the artist of Wonder Woman #24, really outdid himself with the excellent details he put into every panel. That matched with Tomeu Morey’s wonderful work on the colors really made this issue stand out from the rest.

Final Thoughts

I loved seeing the different tones of Wonder Woman, from her dynamic fighting skills, to her patience and ability to treat the young girl with kindness, even when she was lost in translation.

Overall Grade – 8.5/10
