The Story and Writing
Felicia Hardy, AKA Black Cat, has been known by many different names; thief, villain, the world’s greatest cat burglar. With all these names, and a pristine reputation of living up to each and every one of these names, you would think she wouldn’t be in the market to make such a big change. However, her life has been turned upside down and it’s all because of Spider-Man.

Spider-Man, who isn’t even answering her calls anymore, has been distracted by Hellgate and isn’t doing sucha. great job at being a hero. Before Hellgate, Spider-Man would keep the lower class villains out of Felicia’s way, and she was able to do as she pleases. But now, she has to deal with these villains getting in her way. Her only choice is to take on the roll of a hero herself and fight crime.
What Felicia doesn’t realize is that there’s a plan being formed behind the scenes with some of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. So, it looks like her job of fighting crime will start much sooner than she realizes, and it’ll be a lot more personal than she accounted for.
G. Willow Wilson brings a new look at Felicia Hardy and who she really is as a character. Along with being an amazing thief, and someone who genuinely cares for Spider-Man, she’s also someone who is innovative and willing to do what’s needed to be done in order to get what she wants. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Wilson takes Felicia and her story in this new comic run!
The Art
Gleb Melnikov is the artist of Black Cat #1, and he absolutely understood the assignment. Melnikov delivers some fantastic artwork that really nailed the tone of the story. There’s a few full page looks that I like, but I think Melnikov’s talents really show when it has to do with Black Cat and the Lizard. With a phenomenal amount of detail on each page, it’s hard to find something you wouldn’t like in this comic.
Also on the creative team is Brian Reber, who’s the colorist, and Joe Caramagna, who is the letterer. Together, the creative team shined very brightly with all their talents showcased in Black Cat #1. Reber really excels with his work on the colors, using contrasting colors to make each page pop.
Final Thoughts
It was a very strong start for the run! I’m really looking forward to seeing what the creative team has in store for Felicia Hardy and her new adventure as a hero.
