Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week, I’m going to be reviewing the 19th issue of Ultimate Spider-Man from Marvel Comics!

Peter Parker’s life is a mess right now. His identity got revealed, and his family had to go on the run. He had to fight for his life against Kraven, all the while he thought Harry was dead. His son Richard has the symbiote right now, and we all know THAT’s a ticking time bomb. Oh, and on top of it all The Sinister Six are running amuck! So with that in mind, let’s jump into it!
Ultimate Spider-Man #19 by Jonathan Hickman (Writer), Marco Checchetto (Artist), Matthew Wilson (Color Artist), VC’s Corey Petit (Letterer) is an intense read from start to finish that delivers on all fronts.
The Story
It should surprise absolutely nobody that this story from Jonathan Hickman is another incredible one. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish and has me incredibly excited for the next few issues.
It’s hard to pick just one part of this that stood out to me, because it’s all just so good! You’ve got Richard making some INTERESTING developments. I won’t spoil it, but I’m going to put this on the record now….this won’t end well. Mole man meeting up with Peter again, plus there’s Mary Jane’s conviction at the end.
The story is delivering so much from issue to issue, that it’s really going down as the best series I’ve ever read in comics.
The Artwork
Marco Checchetto & Matthew Wilson continue to deliver with their stellar work in this issue. The entire Ultimate line of comics is some of the best looking ones on stands today, and this issue just continues to cement that. I love the use of colors and how crisp everything looks. Plus, THAT moment with Richard is INSANE and looks awesome! Marvel needs to pair these two together more often!
FINAL POINT: If you’re passing on Ultimate Spider-Man, you seriously need to rectify that IMMEDIATELY. It’s some of the most consistent storytelling and artwork in all of comics today. Hickman is a master storyteller that does not miss from issue to issue. Plus the amazing work Marco Checchetto & Matthew Wilson are displaying truly make this issue a can’t miss event.
Overall Grade: 9.7/10
