A demon child raised by good parents, and an angel child raised by terrible parents. A social experiment, and attempt at peace between heaven and hell. The kids are now middle schoolers and have learned of their heritage from the Adjudicator, who has been taken by those who aren’t looking for peace.

The Story for Hornsby & Halo #8
With the kids just wanting to be normal, they notice the absence of the Adjudicator, but seem a bit relieved about it. As their “normal” lives continue they’re cast as an angel and the devil in a school play. Rose Hornsby, a demon child, playing an angel, and Zachary Halo, an angel child, playing the devil. As they practice and perform, for once they begin to act less as rivals and more as friends. Just as they think their lives are looking back to normal a flash of heaven and hell appears for a second, reminding them of their true heritage.

The Art
While this issue didn’t showcase other realms, we still got beautiful backdrops of space, the ocean, and everyday life. Whether in a funeral parlor or a school auditorium, the details, colors, and emotions were all beautifully captured. The world of Ghost Machine doesn’t just tell amazing stories, they create the perfect art to showcase said stories. With a little added humor at times as well.
Overall Grade: 9/10
I feel this issue is the calm before the storm. Rose and Zachary have had many ups and downs (both literally and metaphorically) since discovering who, or what, they really are. Issue 8 was a good break for them. A chance to be kids, as they struggle with what every kid does: just trying to fit in. We see them bond, while we also see the chaos begin to brew behind it all.
If you haven’t jumped into the world of Ghost Machine comics yet, what the hell are you waiting for? Pun intended.
