The Story and Writing
Deep in Japan, we start at the Citadel of the Hand, where the archpriestess is about to begin a ritual that’s meant to bring out the world’s greatest murderer. The Hand worships what they call “The Beast”, and they honor him by celebrating what they see as the greatest gift of all: murder. No matter how much The Hand celebrates, they’re still left without a messiah of their beloved Beast.

So, the archpreistess has gathered the greatest convicted killers alive, but not to find out which can be the Beast’s Fist, but to kill them all in a ritual. The ritual awakens the King of all Killers, King of the Monsters, none other than Godzilla, who is now the Fist of the Beast.
Days later, Godzilla is still on a violent rampage of Japan, killing anything and anyone in sight at The Hands delight. This can only go on for so long until this violence can capture the attention of someone that can ruin The Hand’s plans. That’s when the hero arrives; Thor heard the pleads and prayers of desperation from deep within Asgard. Thor is more than ready to fight the King of Monsters but what happens when an unstoppable god fights an unkillable monster?
The writer of Godzilla Vs. Thor #1, Jason Aaron, brings a new kind of darkness to these stories of Godzilla being in the Marvel Universe. Involving the Hand in the story gave it a whole new level of depth, which worked very well in Godzilla Vs. Thor #1.
The Art
The artists involved with creating Godzilla Vs. Thor #1 include the very talented Aaron Kuder, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Sabino. Aaron Kuder does an outstanding job at combining the monstrous looks that accompany Godzilla with the otherworldly vibes that usually come with Thor. Jesus Aburtov always impresses with his masterful work on the coloring, and this is no exception. There was quite a few panels in the comic that are simply stunning, but the last page in particular really showcases Aburtov’s talents. Joe Sabino is the letterer of the comic, and really keeps you into the story while reading the dialogue. You can practically hear Thor’s Asgardian tongue, along with The Hands menacing tone. All in all, the artists really outdid themselves here.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t know what to expect going into Godzilla Vs. Thor #1, but I was very excited by the time I finished reading. The creative team did a phenomenal job here!
