The Final Countdown

Mary and Li Xhu are worried about their plan to send Jan back to fix the box. As they continue to worry, they decide to try and get in touch with Jan and find out the issue. It is then that they discover that Sabine has hijacked not only Jan’s spirit but also possessed Chloe and is about to give the box to the Estival.

Meanwhile, The Lion of Man has followed Officer Warren in an attempt to remember his place. This all sets up the final battle between good and evil. Will Jan and Chloe be able to oust Sabine? Will the Lion of Man be able to be a savior? Will the inhabitants of the box be banished forever?

A Heroic Ending

This final issue of the series brings the story to a good close. Mike Carey ties the story together and really helps push this chapter to a close. The open-ended finish also lends itself for possibly more out of this universe. The only real problem with this finale was that there seemed to be too many open ends, without there being a clean-cut promise of another arc for this title.

The art is beautiful in this book as it has been in the whole series. Pablo Raimondi did a fantastic job on art and character design. Using every panel to set up for the next panel and everyone thereafter. Josè Villarrubia does an impeccable job with the color choices and really brings the art to life.

Ghostbox #5 is a fitting end to this series and arc. Hopefully we will get a follow up arc, so we get more closure for some of the characters we’ve grown to know. Overall, this series has been very good, and you should definitely make sure to check it out in its entirety.
