“SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE! After a devastating defeat, Bucky decides to hit Doom where it hurts — and he’s bringing in some old friends to do it. It’s a modern-day Hellhunters reunion as Bucky brings in Ghost Rider ’44 for a daring train robbery! With Sharon Carter and U.S.Agent backing them up, it seems like nothing can go wrong. But it’s not easy to get the jump on Doom…” (Credit: Marvel)
The Story
After Bucky tried and failed to take down Doom by going after his nuclear warheads, Doom obliterated his hometown of Shelbyville, Indiana. Bucky was blamed for the devastation, now having his face on every news channel. Meanwhile, Doom has a new team of secret police called Fulgur Victoris that’s ran by someone named Citizen V, who has a few plans of her own to take on Bucky.
The devastation of Shelbyville only makes Bucky want to take Doom down even more, and he already has a plan forming in his head. Natasha learns of his plan, and wants to help where she can, so she enlists Bucky some help by the name of John Walker. John is fully aware of the mission, so he and Bucky head out to Free City, Texas, to look for Sal.
Their intel says to check out an old dive bar to find him, but after being refused help, they’re unhappily greeted by Sharon Carter, aka Destroyer. Sharon isn’t pleased in the least to see Bucky, especially after the tragedy of Shelbyville, but Bucky doesn’t care. Bucky has a mission and he’s looking for help.
After he gets the support of the people in the dive bar, Bucky’s plan is ready to rock. Bucky wants to attack Doctor Doom’s train, that’s said to be carrying something very important to the World Emperor. With the help of Sharon, John, and now Sal, who happens to be a Ghost Rider, hopefully Bucky is able to complete his mission. But he also has the Fulgur Victoris and Citizen V to worry about, too.

The Writing
I’m really enjoying all that’s gone into Thunderbolts: Doomstrike, especially with Bucky not giving up in his fight to right the wrongs he did leading to Doom becoming as powerful as he is. I love that a Ghost Rider was brought into the mix! It added a new level of excitement, along with Sharon Carter and John Walker. It also gave the opportunity to show just how big of a threat Citizen V really is.
So far, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly are knocking this leg of the One World Under Doom event out of the park. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
The Art
Tommaso Bianchi, Yen Nitro, and Joe Sabino are back to bringing this storyline to life and they do so expertly. As exciting as the entire comic’s artwork is, I have to say the scenes with Sal are easily the standouts. I feel these panels best showcased Bianchi and Nitro’s given the extraordinary details along with the juxtaposition of the bright orange from Sal and the cool gray steel from the Doom train.
Overall Grade – 9.3/10
