Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest episode of The Amazing Spider-Man from Justina Ireland & Marvel!
This week’s issue is BIG, and that is NOT an understatement! The story so far has been building up to a climax and it appears we’re here! Let’s not beat around the bush any further, and jump right into it!
The Amazing Spider-Man #68 by Justina Ireland (writer), Andrea Broccardo (penciler), Scott Hanna (inker), Marcio Menyz (colorist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer), Patrick Gleason & Patrick Isanove (cover art) is one of the best Spider-Man stories I’ve read in recent history. The run thus far has been one of my all time favorites!
The story picks up right where the last one left off. That’s with Peter hanging out in Felicia Hardy’s apartment after getting put through an absolute ordeal of a trial.
Peter abandoned all his responsibilities as champion of Earth in the battle against eight scions of Cyttorak. Of course this is all at the behest of Doctor Doom, the new Sorcerer Supreme.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Things kick into high gear immediately when one of the scions goes to see Peter. The scion takes him to the battle going on between the X-Men and another scion. That battle is taking place right outside of F.E.A.S.T. itself!
Peter is forced to re-learn a lesson he learned a long time ago. With great power, comes great responsibility. Peter was given great power by Doom, greater power than he had known before. He was ignoring the responsibility that came with it. With that came at the price of Aunt May’s life along with Randy Robertson and Shay Marken also dying.
I don’t want to go into too many more spoilers, because the issue is INCREDIBLE. It’s one that you need to experience first hand yourself. I really do want to commend Justina on an wonderful issue. It’s a story that had my on the edge of my seat from the very start up until the end. And the ending is one that you DO NOT want to miss. I honestly did not see it coming, and I’m extremely intrigued to see where things go from here.
With such a major issue, the artwork has to be on point as well. And Andrea Broccardo, Scott Hanna & Marcio Menyz all step up to the task spectacularly. Everything pops off the page and blends together so wonderfully. And the last few pages especially are some of the best I’ve seen in quite a few years. Well done, and kudos to the entire team on a phenomenal job well done.
Overall Grade: 10/10
The implications that come out of this issue will be massive and are sure to have the entire internet talking. The story being told is such a breath of fresh air after the previous run left such a bad taste in folks mouths. I’m so happy to see it return to form. This is an issue you are NOT going to want to miss. You’re going to want to read this first thing when you pick it up this week.
A monumental story, incredible artwork and an unknown future blend together perfectly. It’s one of the most can’t miss issues at the comic shop this week. Even if you haven’t been keeping up or might’ve missed a few issues you HAVE to pick this up!
