Gun Fight for Freedom
When we last saw Javier, he had gotten his Hellspawn powers back, just as the guards closed in on recapturing him. The guard’s waste no time shooting him, as he hopes that his powers are back enough to keep him alive. Before the guards can attempt to finish him off, their dogs turn on them and protect Javier. This gives him time to lay waste to the guards before making his escape.
To throw the eventual search party off, Javier sends the 2 dogs one way, while the other dog and him go the other way. As they are making the escape they encounter some terrible weather. It becomes a challenge for Javier to keep his canine companion alive. But that’s not the only threat nature throws at them.
Survival of the Fittest
This issue picks right up where the last one left off, right in the middle of an action beat. The story slows down a bit in the middle but pays off with some crazy final pages. McFarlane has been mastering these crazy final page endings as of late in the Spawnverse. This issue is building into a much bigger crossover that should be kicking off soon.
The art is great, but no surprise in the world of Spawn. The character designs are next to none. The color pallet is on point and makes every page pop. Most importantly though, the action sequences are some of the best in all of comics today.

Gunslinger Spawn #39 is a fun read with some great action beats and a cool twist cliffhanger ending. If you’ve been reading this series, you know it’s one of the best in the franchise currently. We are coming into a great jump on time in this series. Definitely think about picking this issue up and adding this series to your Pull List.
