The Island Will Keep You Safe

This issue opens with a flashback of Tess’s time in the Navy. She gets upset about an injustice committed to a friend of hers. As her temper leads her to get vengeance, she has a chance run in with her future husband and stepson. Flash to the Island of Demonde, where Tess is trying to make sense of all that has happened. As Faria and his gut try to put them at ease, a sea monster sinks the ship.

After this Tess freaks out even more. To try and put her at ease her personal protector Tahmina makes her appearance. This gets even more confusing as Tahmina is a Griffen like creature known as a Lamassu. Finally, the Island shows that it is alive by defusing the situation and getting the family to go to the main house.

Once in the house Faria gets the family settled in and they get to meet their new magical dog Mimick-Dog. As the kids get more excited about their new living situations, Tess starts to go over the notes and memos her father left her. She then finds out that she has been summoned to a meeting with Ereshkigal, a Mesopotamian Goddess who lives on the Island.

A Paradise of Sorts

Archaic #2 builds on the story that the first issue rolled out. Slowly building and revealing what exactly is going on with this magical island and its unusual inhabitants. Melissa Olson is unraveling this story like peeling an orange. With every layer we find out more and leaves us wanting more.

The art in the issue has an old school feel and vibe to it. The use of earth tones in this book makes this issue feel like home and real. Every panel evokes an emotion and flows from front to back. The character design is awesome, and the creature designs are great.
