In the last installment of Deadpool, Ellie and Princess meet with Valentine Vuong to find a way to save their dad’s life. Turns out, Valentine was working for none other than M.O.D.O.K. who didn’t take kindly to her attempting to leave her job at ChemoCorp to save Wade. Now Ellie, Princess, and Valentine must take down M.O.D.O.K. and get back to their mission of reviving Deadpool.

In Deadpool #9, there’s a great deal of heart coming from the daughters of everyone’s favorite Merc with a Mouth. Ellie, while being new to her mercenary position, goes far and beyond to prove that she isn’t only good at her job, but she’s an incredible daughter. She goes to the ends of the world to do what she can to try to save her dad, along with Princess, of course.

I have to say, I didn’t know how I felt about Valentine working with Ellie and Princess, but I would really like to see more of that in the future. There was an interesting feeling of pride that Valentine had for Wade’s daughters, and I’d really like to see their family reunite and Valentine play a stepmother role to Ellie.

The Writing

Cody Ziglar and Alexis Quasarano set the tone immediately with M.O.D.O.K. and his fight against Ellie, Princess and Valentine with excitement in every panel. The banter between Ellie and M.O.D.O.K. was hilarious, which made Ellie fit right into the role as the new Deadpool. After the battle, the comic goes on with a huge amount of heart that I felt flowed so perfectly with the story. So far, this Deadpool run has been one of my favorites, as Cody Ziglar, and now Alexis Quasarano, has brought so much to the Deadpool family.

The Art

While the art has continued to impress in this Deadpool run, I think Deadpool #9 gave more than the others. With the fight scenes with M.O.D.O.K., we saw just how much of a powerhouse Ellie is, and it showed brightly throughout the artwork. With her acrobatic moves, and creative plans to take out M.O.D.O.K., it became very clear that Ellie is nailing being the new Deadpool.

Some other parts of the comic showcase the artists talents, but there’s really no way to describe it without giving away spoilers. I’ll just say that the artists really brought the heat throughout Deadpool #9.

I give this a 9.6/10
