Blood Hunt Aftermath

Hordes of Vampires swarm the country during the Blood Hunt events. Bystanders fell victim to the hordes. Unwillingly, many were turned into day-walkers. Most vampires have been relocated to North Brother island. Also known as Fang Town. The new day-walkers are trying to move on with their altered lives. But it’s never that easy, is it? There’s always rejection to change.

Additionally, those sentiments bring the worst out of a few. Those who will always go the extra mile and act on their hatred and bigotry. But life adjustment and predujice are not all they have to face. There in Fang Town, they will subjected to the worst humanity can provide.

Enter the Nightstalkers

The Nightstalkers are vampire hunters. The group is composed by Coma, Abby Morris, Frank Drake, Voracious and Bloodscream. Without the authority, or the approval of any sanctioned agency, they have taken it upon themselves to hunt the citizens of Fang Town. The Nightsalkers do not make any distinction from old and new vampires. Granted, there has been plenty of evil doers in the vampire community prior the events of Blood Hunt. However, to the Nightstalkers a good vampire is a dead vampire. Therefore, they take their hate, prejudice and skill to Fang Town and kill indiscriminately. Undoubtedly, havoc ensues because these hunters are powerful, capable and coordinated.

Avengers Assemble

Initially, there is a quick debate among the Avngers. They can’t decide whether they should or shouldn’t go help vampires. After all, everyone still remembers how the vampires almost took over the world. However, despite the initial disagreement She-Hulk, Wonder Man, Lightning, Lightspeed, Night Thrasher, Wonder Man and Wasp deploy to Fang Town. Once the Avengers arrive they took on the NIghstalkers.

The AVENG.E.R.S.not only arrived to fight the Nightstalkers abilities and physical prowess, they also had to fight their ideology. Despite what The Nightstalkers may think, vampires are not just some mythical creatures with no rights. On the contrary, vampires are citizens of a country called Vampyrsk. Furthermore, the United Nations recognizes Vampyrsk’s sovereignty . As a result, all vampires fall under the jurisdiction of their nation.

How about the art?

Its easy to lose track of all the characters in a team book. Granted there’s only so many pages to draw. Add to that, a new team of villains debutes on this issue. No matter, Marcelo Ferreira on the penicls and Roberto Poggi on the inks went deep into their bag of tricks. Each individual’s powers are showcased. Besides the action, the art depicts a wide range of emotions from the characters. For example the clear disgust the heroes felt. Specifically, when they fully grasped how the Nightstalkers terrorized the citizens of Fang Town. Last but not least, Sonia Oback brought everything to life with her exceptional coloring.

I give this issue an 8 out of 10.

Steve Orlando is writing an excellent team book for Marvel Comics. This issue in particular, contains a powerfull message for displace people around the world. In my opinion, the message is the following; There will always be those groups of people that will resist your presence in your new location. Even more, there will be people to actively fight your very existance in the world. Nonetheless, just like the Avengers fought for those vampires rights, there is also people who will always fight for yours.
