New Developments All Around

Last we left our favorite Ninja Turtles, they were in the midst of the battle on streets when Yi stepped in and saved them all. Yi used her amazing electric powers but she didn’t see it that way. She’s knocked out cold and has a nightmare that stays with her. She struggles with the idea of others seeing her and her siblings as monsters. Of course, her family attempts to put her mind at ease, but that’s not a feeling easily shaken.

It turns out, Yi isn’t the only Turtle developing powers, as her siblings are showing signs. Upon further research, April finds the reasoning for their new and unexpected powers but it’s left open ended, which makes me really excited to see where this goes.

While they’re getting Gramma April is running tests on Yi, Casey wonders if the fighting is still going on in the streets. Moja says the fighting is still going strong but how did she know that? Moja says it was just a feeling, but this seems to be those new powers developing.

Speaking of the fighting that’s still going on, it seems that every base of the resistance is being taken over. But that’s not all, Zayton is under a cyberattack and that puts the Turtles and everyone else there at risk. Jigsaw and the Purple Dragons have been given the task of bringing in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and it seems they don’t care who they kill to get them.

The Art

The artwork of TMNT: The Last Ronin- Re-Evolution #3 continues to impress in this run. The incredible amount of detail that’s gone into each character is nothing short of fantastic. The darkest colors juxtaposed with the bright colors fit each tone of the story perfectly. Another thing to mention, Yi’s electric blue powerset was absolutely a feast for the eyes.

The Writing

TMNT: The Last Ronin – Re-Evolution #3 does a great job with continuity of the overall story while adding in more factors giving the story even more depth. Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz do a really great job in keeping you fully invested in each character and what the future holds for them. Having the Turtles slowly start to show their surprising powers feels like such a slow burn and is being handled masterfully. This comic really does feel like it was written with the TMNT fans in mind. I am really looking forward to seeing what’s next for April, Casey, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
