Diving into number 5!

Gwen is on the run from the police with Chameleon! While the police our searching the skies for a swinging Spider-Hero, Gwen is underground in the sewers. Chameleon is in pretty bad shape with his powers malfunctioning and Gwen is trying to be of help. While she’s trying to get to the bottom of the problem of Chameleon’s powers, they’re attacked by a familiar Spidey foe. With the assist of Chameleon’s powers, they’re able to get away. Little do they know, they’re being tracked. The people that hired Chameleon to hunt down Gwen now have their coordinates. So that means Gwen is on the run from not only the good guys, but the bad guys too.

Paolo Villanelli does it again with his fantastic artwork in Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #5 with Matt Milla and Ariana Maher. So far, I’d say this has been the most visually pleasing comic in the run! The way Gwen and Chameleon’s powers are shown is nothing short of stunning. It adds so much depth to each thing that happens in the comic and makes it feel larger than life. Matt Milla does an incredible job making each panel eye-catching and a pure joy to look at.

The artwork only elevates the already exciting story. Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #5 was an exhilarating continuance of the run, with the occasional surprise such as a character acting out of their normal behavior. Something I really liked was that this comic book was action from start to finish, whether it be Gwen running from the cops while holding Chameleon up, or running into the other villains.

I really love that even though the other Spider-People are around, this story is all about Gwen without the assist from the others. It’s great to see her stand on her own two feet and figure all these problems out for herself. This one I really enjoyed because it showed Gwen doing the morally right thing for a villain who was after her and kicking ass all along the way. Another banger of a comic from Stephanie Phillips and the creative team!

I give this a 9 out of 10
