Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of the Captain America from J. Michael Straczynski & Marvel comics!

This issue sees Captain America and his crew getting ready for their inevitable confrontation with his most daunting enemy yet, death itself. It’s a compelling issue that will leave readers wanting more and wishing they didn’t wait to have to read the next issue. But just what can Cap do against death itself? Let’s jump into it!

Captain America #12 by J. Michael Straczynski (writer), Jesus Saiz (artist), Matt Hollingsworth (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer) is not the most action packed issue by an means, but is still a compelling one.

Our heroes are going up against death after all, and that isn’t a foe that you can just walk up to and punch it in the face enough to win the fight. You need a plan, and you need to be smart. And we’ll see if things work in Caps favor.

The story of course revolves around Cap and his crew preparing to face the unbeatable foe that is death. They’re on their way to confront death, but along the way we get a bit of a side story about how death became what it is today.

CHECK OUT THE TOP TEN!

It’s a haunting side story, pulling from real life events to show how the worst events can affect the most powerful. Cap also gets a letter and bit of help from Lyra, that will hopefully help them in their fight against death. The help won’t sway the battle in their favor, but it will delay things hopefully long enough to swing the pendulum back in their favor.

But of course this is death their facing after all, and it’s never easy going up against death. And the move death pulls is truly an extraordinary one that is going to make for some compelling reading in the next few issues. The end of this issue is my favorite part of the issue because I sat there reading it wondering “how in the world are they going to get out of this one?!”

FINAL POINT: Straczynski and co write a compelling issue that while it might not be the most action packed issue, it does certainly raise the stakes for what Captain America has to go up against. It is perhaps his most daunting, and powerful foe yet. Will Cap be able overcome death? Or will he fall victim to it’s sweet embrace? Only time will tell.

SCORE: 7.7 out of 10
