Girlfriend Problems
I can’t believe we’re at the end already! I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Jackpot & Black Cat! Jumping into the fourth and last installment, we’re smack dab in the middle of Black Cat and Jackpot fighting off Rocket Racer, Tracer, and Squid who was sent by Felicia’s, AKA Black Cat, girlfriend Amelia. Felicia told her girlfriend to leave MJ, or Jackpot, ands Paul out of this but that fell on deaf ears. Amelia went behind her back and put a hit out on MJ and Paul and that doesn’t sit well with Felicia, AKA Bandwidth. She makes it clear that this was never her plan and she would not be apart of the secret plan Amelia has been putting together.
Foe Reunion
Now that Felicia and Amelia are exes, looks like their now enemies. Bandwidth tries to use Obscura to take down Jackpot and Black Cat, but Paul has been busy behind the scenes removing her connection to Obscura, so she has no back up. Just as she realizes she’s lost the fight, The Owl shows up to take back the money that was stolen from him by Felicia and Amelia. Looks like more than one villain will be humbled today by the two best friends.
The Art
The artwork in Jackpot & Black Cat #4 is just as impressive as the rest of the comic run. Each time Jackpot activates her bracelets, the artists display their amazing talent with vibrant colors and the visual impact of her powers, especially in the fourth installment. The artists also excel at conveying the emotions of Black Cat and Jackpot throughout the story. You can see how conflicted Black Cat is with her having to choose between the one she loves and her best friend just by looking at her. Additionally, the cover art consistently complements the tone of the comic book series, always looking exceptional.
The Writing
This was such a fun ending for the run. Celeste Bronfman did an excellent job at keeping Jackpot & Black Cat exciting and captivating all the way until the conclusion. I really hope Bronfman works with the characters again in the future because she made them shine. I think Bronfman has a great grasp on the characters to their core, and it showed through this run.
Final Thoughts
I think this was a perfect way to end the Jackpot & Black Cat comic run. The way Black Cat showed her loyalty to Jackpot in the end was handled really well. I hope to see Jackpot and Black Cat work together again because this was so much fun to read. The loyalty and love between the best friends was portrayed excellently. Hats off the to the creative team for this run!
I give this an 8.5 out of 10
