Wolverine by Marvel Comics
This run of Wolverine has been going on since 2020, while the Sabretooth War kicked off in issue 41. However, this issue wraps up this entire run with the grand finale! Whether you’ve been reading this comic since its inception, or still deciding if you should pick this run up, it always kicks off with a bit of a refresher, so everyone is on the same page (pun intended).
Last we saw Wolverine, he was still depowered (due to Forge’s depowering gun that Sabretooth shot him with after tricking him into helping him find it). Logan was also in mid battle with Sabretooth’s son, Graydon Creed AKA Badseed. Nevertheless, he’s equipped with an adamantium suit, and the Muramasa blade, and he’s ready to finish this never ending feud between him and Sabretooth.

The Story for Issue 50
Before we even get to the recap for this issue, we’re instantly met with an “Oh $#@&*” moment that I wasn’t surprised happened, but that definitely caught me off guard. As Sabretooth continues to go for nothing but blood and pain, he thinks he has it all figured out. He thinks he has taken his punishment on Krakoa and turned it into an advantage. He thinks he’s one step ahead, because he’s always shortsighted and filled with rage. However, he seems to have forgotten that he’s fighting against the best there is, and he’s made a lot of enemies in his quest to destroy his favorite little runt.
The icing on the cake to this conclusion, is a bonus story: Mutants on the Edge of Town. A moment with Wolvie, Jubilee, a rando, and a sentinel. Then this comic wraps up with a beautiful look at the many past lives of Wolverine, and a send off from Benjamin Percy. While, I wasn’t ready for this run to end, it wrapped up beautifully, and I can’t wait to see what Wolvie stories Percy writes next.
The Art
I have enjoyed the art for this comic from issues 1 to 49, and this issue is no different. Yet, it also seemed to take it up a notch. At one point I’m gasping from a sudden and gruesome death, and then I see a full page of just beautiful action scenes between Sabretooth and Wolverine, that would look amazing framed on my wall.
Then there was a moment, where we see Wolverine mourn the loss of his son, and all the others Sabretooth has taken from him. In this moment we see his pain, and we see him process his grief in the most Wolverine way possible. The art and the story were so incredibly complimentary in this issue, that I got lost in the story and felt Wolverine’s pain along the way.
Wolverine #50 Rating: 9/10
All Wolverine fans need to read this comic from beginning to end! Wolvie has so many interactions with various characters throughout the 50 issues, and then it all wrapped up with his most annoying and arguably most evil nemesis: Sabretooth. It was a proper ending to a hell of a story. Ben Percy knows Wolvie inside and out, and wrote him so perfectly. There’s no better time than now to pick up a Wolverine comic, and this is a perfect one for a Wolvie newbie or expert. All in all, at the end of the day, Wolverine is still the best at what he does, and what he does best is a lot nicer than he thinks. SNIKT!
