HOW IT BEGAN….TO LAST ISSUE
The Rundown:
The Enfield Gang is surrounded and after a questionable call leaving innocent civilians dead the Sheriff decides he can’t take part in the assault against the gang as he doesn’t believe in it.
Enfield hatches a plan to get innocents out of harms way as the former Sheriff learns the truth behind who may have committed the true act of murder leading us into an emotional turn setting up the final few issues as the story ends union army arriving and the sun begin to set on the Gang
The Art:
In past issues, Jacob has given us a palette of reds and oranges whereas in this issue he really digs into his bag of tricks to create a wonderous blend of dark blues that help paint a somber tone that matches the emotional shift in this issue.
HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT THE SCHLUB?
The Writing:
The first couple of issues left the gang with a gigantic bang but, in issue 3 we get a tonal shift that helps slow the story down.
The characters are given real emotions on both sides that help blur the lines of who really is good and evil in classic Western fashion. You begin to truly feel the weight of this fantastic standoff and realize that no matter whose side you are on there are people at the end of the day.
Final Thoughts:
Issue 3 brings us about to the height of this rollercoaster of action and adventure. The Enfield Gang did they truly do what they are accused of? The sheriff comes to terms with the man he is.
This story took a fun and emotionally gripping turn that added depth to a straightforward story. The duo brings this story to life and really does it justice. I think there is room for Westerns to make their comeback and we can point to this run as the starting point.
