The Run Down

Alas, here we are now at the end of Delilah S. Dawson’s “Sleepy Hollow: The Witches of the Western Wood”. It’s been a long and crazy road, but a horrifyingly good one at that! The previous issue set us up perfectly for this finale, setting the stage for the ride of the Horseman. Things in the sleepy town are ramping up all thanks Sarah’s wicked ways, but will they come crashing down? Come find out with me as we take a look at Dawson’s finale.

The Writing

From the first issue to the last, Delilah S. Dawson crafted a truly horrifying tale of over-protection, mental health, the sisterly bond and what it can look like when the cycle of abuse isn’t broken. All of those messages round out perfectly in this final issue, being wrapped up in a bloody bow. It’s here that Dawson shows us Sarah’s madness in it’s fullest form and I couldn’t be more enthralled. In it all, she manages to make this feel like there really no other options, like Sarah was forced into this life. The twisted part is she comes off as having wanted this and it works.

As for the overall pacing of the issue, it stayed great. From start to finish, it was all gas and no brakes and the pacing felt all the better for it. Throughout it all, I was both terrified and having a great time so I’m sad to see this comic end.

The Art

As from the very beginning, the artwork from Jose Jaro and Xenon Honchar stayed absolutely amazing. However, both of them went exceptionally hard in this issue with how much that was going on. Everything from the fire and brimstone to the lobbed off heads with blood spilling looked absolutely fantastic. Throughout the entire run, I couldn’t get enough of the work from Jaro and Honchar. I genuinely hope they’re proud of themselves for creating such fantastic looking pages.

The same can very easily be said for LetterSquids. They truly busted their ass creating every piece of text and dialogue box and it showed. Each and every box looked unique from the last and had this old, parchment paper look to it that I loved. Not only that, but they weren’t afraid to get experimental with the dialogue bubbles, showing the pain, anger and madness in the voices.

Final Thoughts

Delilah S. Dawson and crew should be proud of how fantastic this series is. From the first issue to the last, this run is a work of pure perfection. If you weren’t interested in the legend of Sleepy Hollow before, this will be the story to get you there.

Overall Grade: 10/10
