The Story
We’re at the end of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion and I’m so sad about it! This miniseries has been a blast to read with each issue getting more chaotic than the last. In the last issue, Dr. Eggman got his hands on the Justice League, but was swiftly taken care of by their clever secret plans. In this issue, the problem comes from Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom who has invaded Team Sonic’s world. Luckily, the Justice League has backup in the form of Aquaman, Starfire, Supergirl, and their Sonic universe counterparts. Together, the heroes must stop Lex but that’s only the easy part. Even more problems appear that could end both the DC universe and Sonic’s universe!

Ian Flynn has made this run such a joy to dive into. My favorite DC characters coming together with my favorite Sonic characters and taking on their biggest villains was so much fun. Seeing the characters and their different universe counterparts work together created a beautiful story of worlds colliding. I’m sad to see this run end but I’m excited to see what this creative team takes on next!
The Art
Adam Bryce Thomas, Matt Herms, and Becca Carey have brought this exciting and fun comic series to life in a beautiful way! Adam Bryce Thomas gave us team ups with each partner dressed as the other and they looked gorgeous. My personal favorite is Flash and Sonic together and Aquaman and Big. Somehow, Thomas was able to capture the looks of the DC Universe while concurrently having the energy of the Sonic universe on full display.
Matt Herms brought colors so vibrant, that only this kind of team up could pull this off. Each character was colored bold and striking and had their own time to shine without watering down the many other characters on the pages.
Becca Carey is a superstar with the lettering, nailing each character’s tone excellently and having their personality shine through the artwork. Together, this creative team knocked this run out of the park.
Final Thoughts
I’m so sad to see this run end! This was so much fun to read from beginning to end. There’s so much darkness and seriousness in comics these days so it was truly something special to find a comic run that brought me so much joy in each issue. Excellent job to the creative team!
