Krypton is no more and Kara along with her baby cousin Kal-El are lost in space searching for their new home bringing them before an unsuspected group of Lanterns. After their first close call the kids find themselves on the run from a dangerous gang of kidnappers leading to a surprise revelation and an unlikely new power set.

Creative Team:
The Story:
There are some really quality emotional beats in this story as Kara is unaware of her powers as of yet and is a scared teenager in a massive universe. I love how despite being on her own and being naive she doesn’t back down from a fight and the fighting spirit Kara has really endears me to how well she is being written. Ethan and Griffin have done an incredible job at building her up slowly and showing her as finding her way, scared, but not backing down. We’re getting to see her building a bond with Kal-El which in most stories she never quite knew as an infant. There were some surprise appearances such as not just the Lantern Corp but, the fact we get a Red Lantern, Blue Lantern, and so many more. This was such a welcomed fun surprise with an even more shocking ending!
The Art:
Rod does a beautiful job with the art as there is a vast amount of alien species on display. It may seem like a small detail to some however, when we are playing in space I love seeing the creativity of creatures that are shown. More than That is the wonderful display of coloring. There are vibrant colors when we are seeing the Red Lantern lose control and a sweet shot of a rainbow colored planet after the Lanterns first save Kara. It shows the beauty of space to me in full and gives it life. Rod also uses shading and shadow work with the kidnappers keeping them hidden in the crowd until the reveal of who they are dealing with which makes the reveal even more effective.
Final Thoughts:
Supergirl Survives #2 is taking us on a new journey with Kara and one that I am falling in love with as I read each issue. There are some bold swings that work creatively and are showing a new side to Kara and introducing us to more characters in an intriguing manner.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
