Diana has an unbreakable will and the power to match it; however, what happens when the less fortunate are dealt the same fate as she? More so, what happens to the ones Diana cares for as they are tangled in the web being spun by her enemies? The finale of The Season of the Witch is here!

The Story:
This has been an exhilarating ride of an arc as Diana and Zatanna have joined forces against someone who wishes to see Diana dead. Kelly Thompson manages to find new ways to creatively tell the story and weave in new characters as well as stakes. I love the subtle manner in which we are slowly seeing the transition from friend to future enemy with Barbara as well. Diana was being tortured, and that never bothered her, but seeing Barbara held against her will strikes the deepest of emotions.
This story is all about the gods, and we are even gifted a touching moment with Hades and Persephone, which has unintended consequences. I am in love with the lore and how this has all been unfolding in such a unique way.
The Art and Letters:
Sherman and Bellaire are amazing and continue to amaze me with the creativity they have with the artwork. For example, the sound effects on a page are so much more as they make use of it and work artwork within the letters. Even when given a splash page, they break it up into shards of glass, all showing us various details and emotions that are being portrayed.
When it comes to coloring, there is a wide variety that is on display. The Salt Flats have a beautiful and soft tone, and then we shift to a full page of Diana being tortured, which is deeply and darkly colored. Becca’s lettering brings life to the pain Diana is feeling and her exasperation. As she is shocked and tortured, we hear the level of concern for Barbara at the same time. It builds her character and speaks volumes to who she is.
Final Thoughts:
Absolute Wonder Woman #20 is a tea kettle that is now screaming out. We’re at a boiling point in this story as Diana’s battle against this unknown person out to destroy her proves futile again and again. It’s a descent into madness and crafting a tale of betrayal for a familiar foe, and this is a story that works so well.
