After being tracked down by Teri, the woman responsible for putting him in the Weapon X program, Wolverine is now being asked to help Teri. Tyler is the newest in a long line of Weapon X-style experiments, this one under the guise of a company called PRIMEWARRIOR. With Tyler on the run and Logan not far behind, PRIMEWARRIOR unleashes Nuke on them. For Nuke, a date with Logan is reward enough—a chance to finally punish the man who put him into the Weapon Plus program.

Writing
I really hate it for the folks missing out on Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon and Captain America. In both these series, but particularly Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, Zdarsky is not just setting a tone; he’s sending a message. With this issue, Zdarksy makes it clear in the march to Armageddon that no one is safe, and that moment in life you put behind you might not be gone after all.
The reveal of David Colton in the last issue of Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon was a surprise, and Zdarsky doesn’t wait long to pay off that surprise. Seeing Logan and Colton chatting felt good, if not a little foreboding. It felt like the old guard and the new guard meeting. Nuke makes a great antagonist for this series, further bridging the gap between the past, the present, and maybe even the future.
Art
The art in this issue from Luca Maresca and Jesus Aburtov was outstanding. Without spoiling things, there are some revelations that happen in this issue that are just so beautifully drawn and colored by Maresca and Aburtov. The setting, rather than being a hindrance, is used by Aburtov to really make the colors pop in instances like Nuke’s face.
Maresca really captures the desolation in the woods. Through Maresca’s art, we don’t need Zdarksy to tell us that Colton is seeking to stay away from people. Readers will feel the cold, the darkness, and the isolation through the panels. Joe Sabino does an outstanding job letting the story flow in this issue as the reader seamlessly moves between the past and present storylines.

Final Thoughts
If Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon is a preview for the style, tone, and story we are getting with Armageddon, then count me all in. Zdarksy, Maresca, Aburtov, and Sabino are taking even major-level heroes like Logan and making them more grounded, dark, and gritty. Zdarksy allows Logan’s past to shape him and help him grow rather than just something to be ashamed of. If you’re thinking of skipping out on this series, pull up a chair while there’s still time and watch the show. You won’t be disappointed.
Overall Grade: 10/10
