“Pragmata” Demo – A Game Everyone Needs to Experience

Potential Game of the Year Material

When “Pragmata” first got announced back in June of 2020, I remember everyone, myself included, being confused as to what we had just watched. “There’s no way a person can make this while being sober.” “I would’ve bet this was a Kojima game.” “This is probably gonna be one of those games that gets cancelled.” These were just some of the comments left on the initial reveal trailer.

Jumping forward now to 2026 and the demo, “Pragmata: Sketchbook” was just released. Having been highly interested in the game for roughly two years now, I took the plunge. Firstly, this game is absolutely amazing! Secondly, I can’t wait to dive back in as soon as I get my hands on the full game. If this is the first article you’ve seen on the demo, let me tell you that this is a game to have on your radar. This demo absolutely blew me out of the water!

Pragmatic Gameplay

On the surface, the gameplay looks rather boring and uninteresting. That being said, actually playing the game is an entirely different experience and one I’m so happy I played! One can easily tell that that developers put all of their love and care into making the gameplay feel as easy and seamless as possible. While the controls are unique, they feel very intuitive and natural. Switching between hacking and shooting is as easy as setting a kitchen timer, while being quick and to the point.

Something that I find interesting however is that you don’t keep the guns you pick up. I got to mess around with the shotgun and automatic rifle in my fifteen minutes of playtime. Let me tell you, these weapons pack a massive punch and feel very good to use! One hack and one shot to an enemy’s weak point, they’re down in mere seconds. However, one the ammo’s out, the gun gets dropped automatically.

Lastly, the usage of Capcom’s in-house RE Engine is absolutely astounding here! Every strand of hair has a life of its own, with every piece of the playable level looking like it’s own art piece. This is very much a game I could see myself using the photo mode on for hours, if they ever add one.

Thoughts – 10/10

In my short time with the demo, I already know I need the full game. I want more of this world, whether it be comics, sequels, or anything else. With everything else mentioned, I’m also already in love with our two main characters, Hugh & Diana. Much like Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us” franchise, I already get the vibes of a strong dad & daughter relationship. Also much like that game, this is one everyone needs to play when it releases on April 17, 2026.
