Epic Games Unveils New Exciting “Fortnite” Season

Published:

Earlier yesterday, Epic Games gave us the long-awaited reveal of the new season of Fortnite! Titled “Override”, the new season is set to be a wild one, focusing heavily on gaming legends. As showcased in the trailer, the season is set to feature the likes of Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and many, many more!

Shop VS Pass

With all of these reveals, it currently remains unclear as to what’s on the battle pass and what’s coming to the item shop. While rumors have suggested the pass will feature mainly collabs, the given image and trailer suggest otherwise. I say this because it’s clear that several original skins are featured, which is what the passes mainly consist of.

As a longtime fan of several of these franchises, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s weird seeing human-sized versions of Sonic and Crash Bandicoot. While this is far from the first time Epic has redesigned characters to work as skins, these are admittedly a bit odd-looking. This is certainly something that will take a lot of getting used to for plenty of older gamers.

Among the confirmed new collabs are:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Pac-Man
  • Tetris
  • Mega-Man
  • Persona 5
  • Spyro the Dragon
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Kingdom Hearts

Sprites Here to Stay

Another thing the trailer showed off was the fact that sprites are here to stay. Over the course of the current season, players have come to… have a certain view towards sprites. At first, they were highly sought after, being points of pride amongst players. However, as the season’s gone on and more rarities and sprites have been introduced, players have found the collecting to be too much and too competitive.

That being said, this season’s coming with a collection of new sprites, the most surprising of which is Jazz Jackrabbit! For those who don’t know, Jazz Jackrabbit is a character from the series of the same name. Coming from Epic Games themselves, the series started in 1994 on MS-DOS, later coming to Windows, Linux, and Game Boy. It was a series of platformers centered on the titular character as he fought his nemesis, Devan Shell. The series ran until 2002, with the final game releasing on the Game Boy Advance.

The Fortnitemares of It All

With this season running from August 20th until November 5th, we’ll see the return of the fan-favorite event Fortnitemares! In the past, Epic Games has had a history of doing collaborations with famous horror franchises in the movie and TV scene. However, with this being the Gaming Legends season, could we see some horror gaming icons enter the fray? We’ve already had some in the past, such as “Resident Evil” and “Poppy Playtime”, so it isn’t exactly unheard of.

Over the last few years, fans have been pushing for the massive “Five Nights at Freddy’s” franchise to enter the fold. With that franchise’s film rights being held by NBC/Universal and Fortnite being a major part of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, now would be as good a time as any for Freddy and his pals to finally arrive in the game. Also, with PlayStation having a close relationship with Epic for Fortnite, could we maybe see the likes of “The Last of Us” or “Until Dawn”? Only time will tell!
