Out of This World Writing

Travis: Kyle Higgins is a very good storyteller! The writing for this first issue does such a good job at giving you background on our feature character for this story. Throughout the story he uses so much pathos, making you feel for the character. Higgins’ writing for this first issue is so dynamically powerful, causing you to want more.

Eda: I completely agree with Travis here! This was my first time ever reading “Radiant Black” and from the first page, I was hooked. Kyle Higgins lures you in with this unique superhero origin story and keeps you trapped there, wanting more and more as the action and emotion ramp up. The story feels relatable yet oddly otherworldly in a way that feels fresh.

Artistic Integrity

Travis: The artwork by Marcelo Costa is so crisp and clean. This adds such a defined look to the art, especially when there is no color being used. I love to read simple black and white comics, mainly because you can use your imagination to fill in those blanks left behind. The line work and attention to detail make this so appealing to the eyes. Even without the use of color, Marcelo can show raw emotion from the character’s faces.

Eda: Marcelo doesn’t just do a great job at showing the raw emotion, but the action as well. The usage of the line work along with the black and white color scheme in certain panels makes you feel like you’re being sucked into a black hole.

Final Thoughts

Travis: Radiant Black and White #1 is a good read, and catchy on the eyes. Kyle Higgins has a background of working on Power Rangers, and you get a feel of that in this issue. The plot for the story is proving to be an amazing arc. Don’t brush this story off simply because it is in black and white, explore it and let your imagination run free. With how this first issue ends, I am excited to get my hands on issue two! Rating: 9/10

Eda: As a first time “Radiant Black” reader that’s heard nothing but great things, this has surpassed my expectations. Right out of the gate, I’m sold and left wanting more. Not just of Radiant Black’s story, but this universe in general. Such a great read from start to finish. Rating: 10/10

Overall Grade – 9.5/10
