The Story:

While Nova stops to refuel someone from his past takes the opportunity to steal his ship. But, will this grand theft star ship lead to something more than just a fight?

The Writing:

MacKay continues to build on the mythology of the Worldmind and the Nova Corps in this issue. What really stood out to me in this issue was Richard’s intense feeling of responsibility for preserving Xandarian history. This is where MacKay’s writing shines, in deep character motivations. It’s not just about sci-fi spectacle, at the end of the day, Richard Rider understands that he is the last of the Nova Corps and he has a deep sense of duty to keep that memory and legacy alive. By putting that bit into what could be a throw away pit stop of an issue, MacKay keeps this from being a filler and makes it a necessary part of the series.

The Art:

The art team turned in another fantastic issue this month. While this was a slower issue, less action and more talking, the art still melded together with the script perfectly. There is a real flow of movement in this series that makes each page look cinematic. When there was action, it was thrilling. I have one nit to pick with the art, and that is I’m not loving the design of the helmet. It hasn’t bothered me until this issue, the side profile just doesn’t feel like a Nova helmet to me. That is a personal prefernce and the only complaint that I can bring up. Overall the art in this series is stunning!

Overall Grade: 10/10

While this issue is about a pit stop, it’s far from filler. The deepening of Nova’s convictions and the practicality of refueling the Worldmind, combined with the chase and revelation of who was behind the hijacking of Nova’s ship make this and easy 10/10!
