“Come Home Peter”
Issue nineteen of The Amazing Spider-Man by Joe Kelly continues with the plot of getting Peter Parker back home to earth. Rocket is trying to explain the plan to the rest of the team, but in his typical loose lip fashion. We see a run-down Peter Parker, who displays an enormous amount of uncertainty about getting back to earth. To dissolve the current mood, the team throws a party causing everyone to forget about tomorrow. If just for the night.

An already emotionally broken Peter is given something that could help him get home. But the risk of using the item is truly unknown. This makes Peter question how bad he really wants to go home. Those thoughts flood his mind as their voyage begins.
Peter and his team are met with total devastation when they arrive to the transport portal. The cause of the disaster is none other than Hellgate! Peter does his best to talk Hellgate down and to join the “good side” in a Star Wars style. But it is to no avail, and another fight with Hellgate ensues. The only difference between this fight and their first is that Peter holds nothing back. But even that is not enough to delay Hellgate.
Peter is now left with making a final decision about using the item given to him earlier in the story. But he is interrupted by his team coming to help. To find out if Peter survives or even makes it back to earth, you will have to go pick up this issue for yourself!
Artwork
Pepe Larraz‘s artwork is out of this world! The use of dark panels and splash pages mixed with colors that pop to accent each scene make this so easy on the eyes of the reader. Too many times, I found myself getting lost in space just like Peter Parker with how good the details are within the art. Larraz also has this uncanny ability to capture raw emotion in the details of facial expressions. Outstanding work!
Final Thoughts
Joe Kelly continues to do an amazing job telling this gripping story of Spider-Man! We get comedic moments from Rocket as well as emotional moments with Raelith. The flow of the dialogue is top notch making this feel like a quick read. Kelly does such a suitable job with context clues that if you are new to this series, you could easily figure out what is going on. However, I recommend collecting the earlier eighteen issues, and of course this one!
