The Story
As the team makes their way to the Limbo Lands, it becomes clear that Melee is keeping secrets from the rest of the Blue Dashers. Melee has been using technology from an anti-mutant group, 3K, to power their beloved ship. That’s a lot to take in, but what the team doesn’t know is that Lyrebird has a secret of his own. It’s not the fact that he and Melee have a somewhat romantic relationship happening, but the fact that it’s his job to get the Blue Dashers delivered to Darkchild. There’s something Darkchild has that he wants, and Lyrebird is more than willing to hand over the Blue Dashers as a payment.

Once it’s revealed what Darkchild has, it all becomes much more clear what kind of person Lyrebird is. With that said, Melee has reasons of her own for betraying her team and keeping dangerous secrets from them. Secrets all around, and each one could be more dangerous than the last.
The Writing
Eve L. Ewing brings the story of the Blue Dashers to an end in the exciting tale of Expatriate X-Men #3. I appreciate that we got to see who these characters really are, and what their priorities are at the end of the day. With surprises at every turn, Ewing was able to give the Blue Dashers a very interesting ending leading up to the finale of X-Men: Age of Revelation.
The Art
The artwork of Expatriate X-Men #3 is a standout from the other two issues. While the artwork was has been gorgeous throughout the miniseries, the third issue felt all the more powerful. With the team being in the Limbo Lands, there’s a whole new tone to the artwork that’s drenched in fiery magic and warm tones. The artists really captured the energy of the Limbo Lands and illustrated it perfectly, along with excellent coloring that made the panels pop off the pages.
Final Thoughts
Expatriate X-Men brings the exciting storyline to an end with an unexpecting ending that will keep your eyes glued to the pages.
