It’s season 1 of Supernatural, and dad is still on that hunting trip. Last we saw the boys they were on their annual Vegas trip, and luck was on their side. Now they’re off on another adventure between episodes.

The Story for SUPERNATURAL #3
Lauren: The boys suddenly find themselves in a situation they’re not too used to (outside of wrecks): car trouble. However their sudden car troubles have them falling into a case when they learn the leader of the local book club was recently murdered. Much like their recent 2 cases this one seems off. Even for them. Coincidence after coincidence has them questioning everything.
Matt: It’s like Dean said, ghosts we can deal with, but humans are the worst. They stumble upon a book club gone awry in this issue and I enjoy how we get to see the full weirdness, such as a massive dinosaur head appearing. I am curious what is at play in the bigger picture as there does seem to be something driving their story along that has yet to be revealed and Greg builds the mystery while weaving in some classic Winchester fun to the story.
The Art
Lauren: The art in this issue was non stop. Whether the boys were simply talking, or fighting, each panel was beautifully drawn and colored. Early seasons of Supernatural were very dark, and this comic leans into that, while still creating a world separate from that mid 2000s CW show. The final battle scene took it up an even higher notch.
Matt: This issue brings new scenery and a lot of fun as the art team takes us to a desolate town. The action sequences, as the brothers battle the ghosts, were done excellently, full of bright bursts of color and a swiftness as the boys wielded iron to save the day. There were some squeamish details added in as we witnessed two graphic deaths, and the team captured the classic Supernatural intro where they love to splatter blood to kick off an episode. I feel as though through the panels, they capture the essence of the show we love so dearly, doing an excellent job.

Overall Grade: 8.75/10
Lauren: 8.5/10. Dean got a moment to shine over Sam in this issue, and I absolutely loved it. He’s not just a pretty face, and a badass hunter. He’s smarter than given credit for, and I love anytime that’s showcased.
This third issue of Supernatural seems to be setting up something big, and the boys feel it too. There are no coincidences in the Supernatural, and too many have been happening lately. As this issue wrapped up, it got me wondering what’s going on? I can’t wait to see how this wraps up on the road so far…
Matt: 9/10. As we get to spend more time with the Winchester brothers, the team is capturing the heart of what we love and does a great job of weaving in some of the lore as well. There is something bigger at play that I cannot wait to see where it goes!
