Last we saw Erica Slaughter in Something is Killing the Children (“SIKTC”) she was just a kid learning from her mentor, Jessica. As we dove even further into the past, we got a better glimpse as to why Jessica Slaughter is the way she is, and how some cases can haunt you for decades.

The Story for ‘Something is Killing the Children’ #45
We kick off with Jessica as a kid trying to handle a traumatized child. She’s saying all the right things, only to be dismissed. Cut to the future where Erica has yet to earn her teeth. As she tries anything she can to help Jessica, her childhood begins to mirror her mentor’s, even more so than it already has. However, Erica is not her mentor.

The Art
Something is Killing the Children absolutely delivers on the art. It is so creepily sad and beautiful. The whole concept of this comic is absolutely brutal, yet the art is almost calming. From the large eyes, to the serene backdrops, and the gruesome monsters. It never stops being gorgeous. The last page was not only gorgeous, but badass, all while getting you amped for what’s to come.
Overall Grade: 9/10
I have loved this comic since issue 1, and my love isn’t slowing down anytime soon. With each backstory we dive more into this insane world. As these monster hunters save lives, they also relive their own trauma over and over. Something Jessica is experiencing on another level at the moment. Anyone who loves good monster stories, and fantastic artwork, definitely dive into this ever growing world of Something is Killing the Children.
