The Story

While the X-Vengers was stopping a Kree attack on the Revelation Territories, the team learned of a new threat; a mutated variant of the X-Virus. This version of the virus is amplifies the X-Gene of the host before completely breaking down their body. The X-Vengers learned of this virus in the worst way, as it got ahold of Scott Lang and made him its first fatality.

Now, grieving their friend, the team has to find a way to stop the new virus before anyone else contracts the virus. That sounds complicated enough but Revelation has ideas of his own about the variant virus. According to Revelation, this was an isolated attack that was triggered remotely, but as he’s getting the words out, the variant virus makes another attack.

The Writing

The gripping story of the X-Vengers told by Jason Loo continues! X-Vengers #2 was an excellent continuation from the first issue, and captured the essence of what made the first issue so great. The story gets more and more heartbreaking for these heroes, and simultaneously gets better and better.

What I found to be the most interesting is the inclusion of Revelation in this issue. Revelation is either the most loved or the most hated mutant in the Marvel Universe at his time, so seeing him involved added a new layer of excitement to the story. Adding him helped seal the deal that the X-Vengers were herer to help everyone, inside or outside of the Revelation Territories.

The Art

The artwork of X-Vengers #2 is everything you’d hoped it would be and more, all thanks to Sergio Dávila, Aure Jimenez, Rain Beredo, and Joe Sabino. With artwork that matches the energy of an Avengers comic book, with the same factors as a New Mutants comic, the artists find a perfect middle between the two. I think what I appreciate the most about the artwork is the look of the characters, aged up X amount of years and following the impact of the X-Virus. Each character looks fantastic in their own right, and given their time to shine without watering down the other characters.

Final Thoughts

X-Vengers #2 shows the hardships of being a hero of both sides. The X-Vengers wants to help everyone, in ot out of Revelation’s Territories and it probably won’t end well in the end, at least for some of their team members. Jason Loo and the rest of the creative team makes this story compelling, exciting, and keeps your eyes locked into the panels.

Overall Grade – 9/10
