Jennifer Walters is used to battling it out in the courtrooms of Earth; however, she finds herself on Sakaar after promising her cousin Bruce. What was meant to be a few-day adventure has turned into much more than she has bargained for as Jennifer must decide if she can keep the peace or she will have to smash it back into the planet.

Creative Team: Stephanie Phillips (WRITER), Aaron Kuder (ART and COVER), Sonia Oback (COLORS and COVER), and VC’s Joe Caramagna (LETTERS).

The Story:
Matt: Stephanie Phillips picks up where she left off with Jennifer, who must now attend a wedding in hopes of getting a ship and getting off of Sakaar, as Hulk’s five-day journey has turned into much more. She does an incredible job at making Jennifer extremely relatable, as missing her favorite food and loathing the fact that she has to attend a wedding speaks to my soul entirely too much. This issue is full of bad ass moments, and the plot does thicken a bit as Korven Blackjaw was set to marry one of Hiro’s widows, Myrren (also, 5 wives is a cult, I don’t care what anyone says.) She weaves in action and mystery really well making this issue a must grab.
Megan: Where we last left Jen was exactly where she didn’t want to be, on Planet Sakaar. Her cousin Bruce gave him his word that it would only be five days, yet here she is, without her flaming hot nacho chips on a planet that runs purely on chaos. She-Hulk hasn’t had the easiest time with having to stop brawls, avoiding getting assassinated for her thrown, and having to get accustomed to living on this new planet. So, when an invitation comes in for her to be the guest of honor at a wedding, obviously she says no. However, Conrad makes an excellent point in saying that among the guests will be the biggest merchant lord, Rowan Creed. This is important because Rowan has a fleet of vessels used for transportation and Jen is desperate for transportation off this crazy planet.
With excellent action, interesting new characters, and dialogue from She-Hulk that gives you a great look at her personality, any Hulk fan should absolutely be checking out Planet She-Hulk #1. Stephanie Phillips never misses, and she absolutely hit a homerun here.
Art and Letters:
Matt: I was a big fan of Aaron Kuder before, but the things he and Sonia do in this issue, with the details and colors, really cement them as a perfect duo for this run. I love the details they craft for Jenn, such as the muscles as she is fighting and moving flawlessly in the fight against the giant monster at the wedding. Aside from that, they manage to make everyone unique in their own ways at this wedding that features beings from across the galaxy. It makes the issue visually stunning and a lot of fun. When it comes to the battle sequences, they make her move with such ease and leading to stunning splash pages.
Megan: The detail that Aaron Kuder put into each page was inspired. The facial expressions alone told the story, which shows Kuder’s talents. Sonia Oback joins Kuder as the colorist, and does some pretty incredible things with mostly muted colors and contrasting vibrancy. Together, they create a comic that’s out of this world, quite literally.
Alongside Kuder and Oback is Joe Caramagna, who handles the lettering of the comic. Caramagna does such a fantastic job at creating an even flow throughout the comic, but also makes you feel the words coming from Jen. You can feel her humor, her sense of frustration, and her annoyance by all things Planet Sakaar.
Final Thoughts:
Matt 10/10: Planet She-Hulk #1 is the total package! The team brings action, adventure, and relatability, and pulls us into this world from the jump. Jennifer Walters is the ultimate badass, and I cannot wait to see how she navigates trying to leave Sakaar with the mystery behind Myrren’s death.
