The Story
Carol Danvers was chosen by Jean herself to carry on the mission of keeping the X-Virus contained to the world with the help of the Phoenix Force. It’s a mission that Carol has little confidence in because she has no idea if what she’s doing is right. The townspeople are upset at her keeping her hometown secure away from the X-Virus, as they feel like hostages. While Carol is trying to come to terms with the right decision, she doesn’t realize a plan is being formed behind her back. Some of the people of Beverly, Massachusetts have come together to form a plan to take Carol down, with the help of an outside source.

The outside source, the person pulling the strings, is revealed and it honestly caught me by surprise. A fan favorite returns just in the knick of time to make Carol’s life even harder, which is pretty on brand for the character. Stephanie Phillips makes you feel every bit of anguish from Carol, the frustration from the people of Beverly, and the excitement of finding out who the villain is. Something about Phillips and writing anything having to do with the Phoenix Force goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Another excellent addition to the Age of Revelation from Stephanie Phillips!
The Art
The artwork, by the very talented Giada Belviso, perfectly projects the tone of the comic. When Carol realizes what the townspeople have done, you can feel her anger erupt like the Phoenix Force in full swing, and the artwork takes you into that emotion. Rachelle Rosenberg handles the colors, and uses the flaming yellows and reds to showcase the powers of Binary and just how majestic the Phoenix is. Belviso and Rosenberg work so well together, with each other’s work perfectly complimenting the other.
Final Thoughts
The creative team followed up on the strong start they had with Binary #1 with the second issue that continues the excitement and emotion.
Overall Grade – 9/10
