The Mortal Thor #3 – Remember Who You Are

Published:

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 3rd issue of The Moral Thor from Marvel Comics!

Sigurd Jarlson is just a simple man, trying to make his way in the busiest city on Earth. However, he does bear a striking resemblance to a certain golden haired Norse God of Thunder we all know & love. Despite being a city of over 8 million people, Sigurd isn’t doing a great job at laying low. So just what happens when several forces come knocking? Let’s jump into it and find out!

The Mortal Thor #3 by Al Ewing (Writer), Pasqual Ferry (Artist), Matt Hollingsworth (Color Artist) & VC’s Joe Sabino (Letterer) is a great entry into the series, that is getting ready to get very interesting!

The Story

Al Ewing does another masterful job with the story this week, as it’s another look at just how Sigurd is getting by in his new found life in Manhattan. It’s also an issue that has some very interesting plot points that should prove very interesting in the next couple of issues.

First, is we start to see Sigurd’s past is starting to come back to the surface. Sigurd may not know that he’s Thor, but I get the feeling that fact is going to come to an end in the very near future. Just what is going to happen next is anyone’s guess, but I think the safe bet is that eventually he will return to being the Thor we all know & love.

The other interesting point involves our impish friend who’s been so keen to help out Sigurd. He has a face to face meeting with another being EVERYONE should be very familiar with. I won’t spoil who it is, but it should be fairly easy to discern who I’m talking about given the figures at play in the series so far. It’s safe to say that things are going to kick into high gear very soon!

The Artwork

Pasqual Ferry & Matt Hollingsworth did a really great job with the art in this issue. The color’s in the issue always help the panels jump off the page, and the lines you see in the artwork help it stand out from other Marvel comics on the stands each week. The action sequences are also some of the best you’ll see each week, hands down. There’s such a viciousness to them that it feels like you’re right there next to the battle. I also have to give some kudos for the character design, because it just looks so good and unique to what I’m used to seeing.

FINAL POINT: If you’ve been skipping on reading this series for whatever reason, then you need to rectify that ASAP! Because this series feels like it’s about to kick into high gear. Al Ewing is putting out a story that is worthy of the name of Thor, and the artwork is right there with it in quality!

Overall Grade: 9.0/10
