The Story

Gwen hasn’t been back to Earth-616 for a long time, but she’s been there long enough for complete chaos to reign free. Wanting to start a band, she brought Wes and Silk on to join her. Now, Wes is dead and Silk is in the hospital fighting for her life all because of a mysterious monster who apparently has it out for Gwen. Now, with Fabian by her side, Gwen finds the monster only to be attacked by it. This isn’t a normal attack, though. This monster knows Gwen’s moves before she can make them. Is Gwen getting too predictable? Is she getting sloppy after returning to her normal powers? Surely this can’t be it.

Turns out, that’s not the case at all. This monster, the one who has killed and attacked with Gwen in mind, is actually Gwen’s former symbiote, Tantrum. Fueled by pure rage, Tantrum is attacking out of revenge for being abandoned by Gwen. The question is how far is Tantrum willing to go until the symbiote has been avenged?

The Writing

Stephanie Phillips instantly sets the tone as she starts the story with a look at Fabian’s father, Carlos LaMuerto, who’s in prison for attempted murder on a judge. That heightened tone of excitement and action continues throughout the comic, never once faltering. All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #3 is all gas, no breaks as it changes to Gwen and Fabian being attacked by Tantrum, but the excitement doesn’t stop there. With a new character to the story being brought in, and the stakes higher than ever, Stephanie Phillips has me anxiously waiting for the fourth issue to drop.

The Art

Paolo Villanelli goes out of his way to make the art match the tone of the story perfectly, making you feel each excitement of every page. The fight scenes between Gwen, Tantrum, and Fabian are action-packed and filled with an excellent amount of details in each panel. Working his coloring magic, Matt Milla elevates the art with his use of dark colors highlighted by contrasting vibracy that makes the characters jump off the pages. The artists do an incredible job at keeping your eyes glued to the pages. The creative team knocked it out of the park, yet again!

Final Thoughts

All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #3 makes the stakes high, keeps the energy high, and has you glued to the story. The only way to describe the comic is all gas, no breaks.
