One Last Adventure
The mutated D.A Hale is running amok, and only our Heroes in a Half Shell can save the day. To do this, however, the Turtles will need to come together and fight as one. As they put their differences aside, they remember the teachings of their departed master to help guide them against the massive threat they face. As the battle wages on and concludes there is nothing that can prepare the reader for the last pages big reveal!
The End of an Epic Era?
Issue #12 has a lot of weight on its shoulders, and not only does it bare that weight, but it carries it with ease. Jason Aaron puts an exclamation point on his run with an action packed, emotional rollercoaster final issue. The challenges the turtles go through not just physically, but also mentally, show how far our heroes have come during the Aaron Era. But Aaron doesn’t just stick the landing on his run, he also sets the table for what’s to come next, with one of the most shocking and awesome surprises on the issues final page! This final surprise really sets the table for Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II upcoming TMNT run.
The art in this issue is just as awesome as it has been in the entire run. Juan Ferreyra really brings the world of TMNT to life and encapsulates what the story is saying perfectly. Each panel seems to get better throughout the issue and is a true testament to the work Ferreyra has put into this run. The colors make the art pop out of the panel and compliment the art perfectly. Ferreyra’s art has set the bar super high for everyone who will follow him in the franchise going forward.

Final Thoughts
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #12 sticks the landing on this final issue, in an era of final issues, and shows finishing on less than great endings. The issue is jam packed with action and heart just like this entire run has been built on. At the same time this book was a fitting end to the Aaron/Ferreyra run, it also serves as a great leaping off point for the next era, with in my opinion the biggest surprise final page of the year. This is my Pick of the Week; you need to run to the LCS and grab multiple copies of this one!
Overall Grade: 10/10
